My Thinkpad X61 is nearing the end of its life...it's developed some bubbles under the screen (grrrr) and will probably have to be replaced soon.
The flood of new tablets at CES this year has me looking at Android tablets for a possible replacement. A 10.1" screen at 1280x800 has about the same DPI as my thinkpad's 12.1" screen at 1400x1050 (even if it is disappointingly small compared to a sheet of paper). There are many tablets with this specification, for a specific example, google the Motorola Xoom. What I don't know yet is if any of them will have a reasonable pen/stylus interface. Capacitive screens in general are bad for this, and almost all devices have one. For comparison, my Nokia n900 is almost unusable with xournal because the screen can't tell the difference between my hand and the stylus. For some $&^*%#(*$ reason, these idiot manufacturers don't see the killer app of replacing paper with these devices. Anyway, there will soon be a lot of these Android tablets on the market. A port of xournal that runs on Android will be highly desirable in the very near future. Has anyone else given any thought to this? Can anyone address my question above about using a stylus with these devices in general? An interesting idea is that with the Android app store(s) we could actually sell xournal too. Perhaps we could use the funds to put up bounties or otherwise reward active developers. -- Cheers, Bob McElrath [ Heidelberg University, Theoretical Physics ] "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the Universe." -- Carl Sagan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Protect Your Site and Customers from Malware Attacks Learn about various malware tactics and how to avoid them.
