Public Statement on Conduct of Dominic Tweedie

At it’s year end lekgotla (10-12th November 2006) the Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee noted with a great deal of concern the sectarian and vicious attacks made by Dominic Tweedie on the Provincial leadership and many individuals outside the SACP through his internet blog. We regard his conduct as unbecoming of a disciplined member of the SACP and would like to publicly distance ourselves from his pronouncements. In short, he does not speak on behalf of any formal and official structure of the SACP in the Gauteng Province – his views are self mandated and his opinions are his own and should not be imputed to the SACP Gauteng Province.

Issued For Provincial Executive Committee By:
Vishwas Satgar
Gauteng Secretary

Your response is in bad faith, Cde Palma.

In fact it is you who is changing the basis of your complaint, as anyone will see by comparing your new message with your previous one.

Your complaint now turns on a liberal, petty-bourgeois insinuation about salaries. For heaven's sake, comrade! You surely can't be serious.

I predict that you will now find other grounds again from which to pop at the GS - grounds that are even further removed from serious politics.

You are actually doing us a favour, Cde Palma. You are exposing the weakness of the "day-dreaming drunkard" attack on the General Secretary of the SACP. We have no other conclusion to make than that it is a disguised attack on the SACP itself.

Down with the day-dreaming drunkards, down, down!

VC

2009/11/9 Adriano Palma <[email protected]>
your view have been noted. You answered none of the questions asked. In particular you have not explained at all why someone would have to receive two salaries.

Comrade Adriano Palma,

Your message is pregnant with innuendo but it is really based on a fallacy.

The fallacy is that the elected General Secretary of the Party whether salaried full time or not, can be prevented from holding office in other structures.

On the contrary, if the General Secretary did not have any responsibilities in other structures he would be severely failing.

Like any other Party member, full time salaried or not, he is expected, among others, to:

"4.2 Organise, educate and lead the working class in the struggle for socialism and the more immediate objectives of defending and deepening the national democratic revolution and of achieving national and social emancipation.

"5.9.4 Serve the masses, strengthen ties with them, learn from them, convey their aspirations to the SACP and work in mass organisations within the framework of SACP policies and programmes.

"5.11 Every person who joins the SACP must pledge as follows:

I accept the aims and objectives of the SACP and agree to abide by its Constitution and loyally to carry out the decisions of the Party.

I shall strive to live up to the ideals of Communism and shall selflessly serve the workers and the poor and the country, always placing the interests of the Party and the workers and the poor above personal interests."

"6.4 Members active in fraternal organisations or in any sector of the mass movement have a duty to set an example of loyalty, hard work and zeal in the performance of their duties and shall be bound by the discipline and decisions of such organisations and movement. They shall not create or participate in SACP caucuses within such organisations and movements designed to influence either elections or policies. The advocacy of SACP policy on any question relating to the internal affairs of any such organisations or movements shall be by open public statements or at joint meetings between representatives of the SACP and such organisations or movements."

Perhaps you thought that being a communist means living in an ivory tower? In that case you have misunderstood the communist party altogether, comrade.

Maybe you had just temporarily forgotten that the role of the vanguard is to be with the masses? Or perhaps you thought that the GS was a different kind of communist from the rest of us, and is not only exempt but even prohibited from given leadership in mass formations? Then you are mistaken, my brother.

Or perhaps you thought there is something qualitatively different about being a Minister? If the latter, comrade, then I think that you are labouring under a bourgeois delusion in this regard.

This GS is under no such prohibitions as you suggest, comrade. This GS and all General Secretaries of the SACP will do simultaneous duty in other structures, like all of us do, and are obliged to do.

Let it be noted for the record: This VC supports our Comrade SACP General Secretary Dr Blade Nzimande!

Domza, VC, CU!

Adriano Palma wrote:
It just so appears that C.de Blade is a Minister and there is incompatibility between gvt posts and the sec general of Sacp, since, ex proviso 11 of the constitution of SACp. It would appear that being full-time entails that you hold no other job.
Would you care to explain?

11. DUTIES OF THE GENERAL SECRETARY

The General Secretary shall be the leading National Office Bearer of the SACP and a full-time official under conditions of service determined by the CC. The General Secretary shall be an ex officio member of all party structures and shall:

11.1 Keep (or cause to be kept) the minutes of all CC and PB meetings and such other books, records and archives as may be required.

11.2 Attend to the correspondence of the CC and PB.

11.3 Maintain regular personal and written contact with all the provinces and keep the membership informed of the work of the CC and PB.

11.4 Ensure that members of the CC are kept informed of the work of the PB in between meetings of the CC.

11.5 Draw up (or cause to be drawn up) all reports and documents as may be decided upon by the CC or PB.

11.6 The Deputy General Secretary shall, as directed by the CC, deputise for the General Secretary in respect of all the functions set out above.

Blade 'safe from drunk dreamers'

Nkosana Lekotjolo, The Times, Johanesburg, 8 November 2009

SA Communist Party youth leader Buti Manamela has warned "drunkards" in his organisation not to attempt to unseat the party's general secretary, Blade Nzimande, at the national conference scheduled for next month in Polokwane.

Speaking to close to a thousand members in Rustenburg at the end of the party's Red October campaign, Manamela said those gunning for Nzimande and who want to change the leadership are "drunkards" who are "day-dreaming."

"We are going to the special congress of the SACP. We know that there are people who think they are going to use that congress to behead the general secretary of the SACP and will want to change the leadership of the SACP.

"It's a small minority. It's people who are dreaming while walking. It's people who live in fantasies. It's not going to happen," said Manamela.

He said the Communist Party's youth wing will ensure that Nzimande remains at the helm of the SACP at the party's congress, at which leadership elections will be held.

"Nobody will ever change the leadership of the SACP at the special congress. They will have to pass through us as the Young Communist League.

"We are not even worried because it's one or two drinking buddies who are either in bedrooms or boardrooms, and begin to discuss the leadership of the SACP," he said.

The youth leader said they were unfazed by the calls for Nzimande to quit and for changes in the leadership.

"We must say to them, keep dreaming, keep walking, keep being drunk - it's not going to happen.

"Come January next year, Blade Nzimande will still be the general secretary of the SACP," he said to the cheering crowd.

Manamela also slammed those who say that the SACP has acquired a lot of influence in the tripartite alliance.

"We will not allow our mother body, the SACP, to be pushed out of the alliance. We hope Cosatu holds the same view. Those who say the alliance is going to the left, where do they want it to go? Do they want it to go to the right?

"That's not what the alliance is for. We are not going to watch as people trample on it."
