I know that that is the standard advice, but I don't know how to get the cats' informed consent to be spayed or neutered.
I certainly don't want to trap them and force it on them. The key point there is that if I cause them to have such a wildly traumatic experience, it will be harder for me to save them in future lifetimes when I become able to do so, because the will have had a history in which I did something horrible to them. You can probably imagine how scared a little kitty would be if trapped, not knowing what might happen and not being able to escape, and then, even though hopefully been anesthetized, nevertheless waking up with an injured body and in pain. I worry that things might get out of hand, but out here, the feral cats don't live very long. There are wild animals which eat cats, and many diseases. Therefore, their numbers don't build up too much, but I still have time to establish karmic connections with them. I'm not fully happy with the situation. I wish I could feed them for a longer period of time. But it sort of works out.
