Right; what I wrote was not about Zen; it was Natural History.
And I haven't been called a schoolboy in years. Smiles.
I see a progression of Nature, in Nature, from one disaster -- for one state,
and one species -- to another state. Being obsessed with the present does not
prevent me -- for one -- from taking the long view, and a survey. It's not
academic.
If the Chicxulub meteor did not strike 65 million years ago, a Reptile might be
typing on your clawboard, instead. No offense, but I doubt you'd know the
difference!
And, if the Cavemen hadn't killed off all the Wooly Mammoths, the Eskimos today
would have lots more heart disease, for not having to eat all the fish they eat
today, and eating red-meat Wooly Mammoths, instead.
The new state of the planet to come will be one that's probably going to be
precipitated by Humans, but not designed by Humans. That's as serious a
statement as I can summon.
It's said that Earth is losing thousands of species per year now, to
extinction. It's a bigger and faster die-off than the pre-historic one written
about in Stephen Jay Gould's, WONDERFUL LIFE.
I hope we all make better choices to lighten our footprints, in every way.
