Oh, he knew we were. Intent on saving sentient beings, that is.
We all took vows. And, as you know, we chant the vows after blocks of sitting.
Some also took the Refuges and Precepts. I did.
So, why I was the chosen ejector of the chitin-covered, I dunno.
But, I liked being a "favorite-son" in at least one department.
A year earlier, I had been the favorite-son always chosen to mop the floor in
the Ch'an Hall twice a day and during breaks, on Retreats.
Maybe, once I could be trusted with floors, I was able to be trusted with Bugs?
It's all training for awakening, it's all Yoga. I thank my lucky stars.
Aitken Roshi used to say:
