You've got me beat by a year.
When the subject of right diet would come up, Sheng Yen would tell us students:
"Eat what you want, but remember where it comes from."
I don't think awareness and appreciation of origin are an instant "pass" for
our behavior; but, they have the power to change our behavior, and I think
that's why our teacher put it in this way to us, his non-monastic students and
disciples. He knew we were not finished canvases, and that's also why we were
students.
