Mike,
I'm on board. I see your point: Why be called something for which there's no
indication anyway. It's superfluous and back-handed.
I'm also a Santa-denier (but not to my youngest Niece).
I am a Klingon-hater! (ooh, shocking!).
So I say atheism is a neutral-grey feature I wear. I personally don't care
that people KNOW, as long as they do. It's not a political statement I make,
but a spiritual one: I state that my spirit is its own, and can be your own, if
only a god has nothing to do with it. God implies too much ownership: by God.
And no sharing by us who are the ones who share everything. Granted, this is a
Buddhist view, or there may be other traditions who share it with us.
Thus, I think I make a little bigger deal about it than you do, Mike, OVERTLY.
I'm "out" about it. You don't care to be. A closet- Atheist!: good to MEET
you! Always a new beast-ie, if we live long enough.
No, man, don't let me rag on ya; I unnastan'. Well done.
