You seem to equate "I am" with ego. Thus, you believe that if ego disappears, the "I am" disappears as well. You could perhaps benefit from reading the Buddha's words, in order to see how even the most exalted master, who had managed to thoroughly transcend his ego, is not reluctant to use the "I am" expression. That should open your mind to the possibility that there may be something beyond ego that still persists after the ego dies. > Consequently, if enlightnement means the > dissolution of ego, it > means that, at least in principle, an enlightned > person should not be > aware that she is enlightened. But the Buddha himself was amply aware that he was fully enlightened. He said so many times over. How do you reconcile that? > In other words, a > person who claims > that she achieved enlightnement can only be > mistaken. So, the Buddha himself was mistaken? And you, on the other hand, know better than him? > Someone said once: `If you ever see the buda, > kill him`. Ah, I see now. Of course you are superior to the Buddha, because you killed him! Gosh, things are all of a sudden so simple. > And > Dogen himself, in the fukanzazengui, says that the > ideal practice is > the practice in which you are not worried about > becoming enlightned. > > Comments? Dogen is one of those people who know everything better than the Buddha himself. Shakyamuni Buddha was, of course, very worried about becoming enlightened. That's why he left his home, his family, and threw himself at the mercy of a wayfarer's life. But, what the hell did he know? Ken Wilber said in one interview that he is better than the Buddha because he can drive a jeep, while the Buddha couldn't drive a jeep.
