>When an animal sits it just sits, it doesn't think about the nature of >life, about the universe, about yesterday or about tomorrow. >Does that means that "Enlightenment" means regressing to an animal mind?
If we're having a moment of "mad monkey" mind, to get to "cool cat" or "delightful dog" might be a step in the right direction. :) However, as impressive as animals "nowness" and concentration might sometimes be - a cat catching a mouse, a dog "just sitting", a heron catching fish.... Zen aims at insight through this present awareness, which addresses the very root of fear and aggression. This is something animals apparently are not capable of. Insight meaning, "clearly seeing that all five aggregates are empty", as the Heart Sutra begins. Ian ------------------------ Yahoo!
