Zen is actually a melding of Buddhism and Taoism. When Bodhidarma (and other
Buddhists went to China they had to incorporate parts of the indigenous
spirtiuality in order for the Chinese to accept Buddhism. At that time Taoism
was the prevalent spirtuality. And if you read Taosim the similarities are
obvious. There is actually a book (The Tao of Zen by Ray Griggs) that argues
that Zen is Taoism disquised as Buddhism if you strip out the ceremony.
