What sort of major outage resolves itself in less than a minute? I'm 
clearly not dealing with the same sort of uptime requirements you are as 
for us, if it's less than a minute, it's transient and we don't care.

I wonder if you can schedule it to check more often, perhaps via hacking 
at the code?
