Just a quick comment on this part of the discussion... WinGrep http://www.wingrep.com/ (distributed as Shareware) is a nice Windows equivalent to the Linux/Unix commandline grep that was discussed here. it works quite well and returns the same kind of results as grep in Linux/Unix.
