XV basically works for the 350 out. My experience is as follows: 0) Getting xv/yuv to work requires that you initialize the driver by first sending some video to the decoder, as in "dd if=some.mpeg of=/dev/video16 ..."
1) In Myth, I get a horizontal offset of the video, but as Ian has pointed out, this has likely more to do with my setup. 2) Video looks very sharp, provided you don't try to resize the video. Some artifacts appear if the video is scaled in certain ways, especially in the vertical dimension. According to Ian, this is because when scaling is done some of the filters are activated. AFAICT the function of the filters is to screw up your video experience. The degradation is more obvious on OSD elements. When not stretched, the video quality is actually *better* than the decoder output. This I've seen by examining credit lines at the end of a recording using the two methods. In Myth, make sure you uncheck "use gui size for tv playback". Otherwise it will scale and mess up the video a bit. In xine, I change the aspect ratio setting a couple of times and land on a really nice setting for video quality. 3) There is tearing, related to lack of vsync'ing. With ~2/3 of video you won't be able to tell, but lots of high contrast or fast motion or especially lots of flashing makes it obvious. But still tolerable, at least for me and my household. All this allows me to transcode my myth recordings to mpeg4 (yay), watch DVDs "out of the box" with xine/MythDVD (yay), watch other video formats (yay), adjust the playback speed in Myth (yay), and a few other niceties, like the slightly better video quality (yay). --- "K.R.
