2009-01-13 Thread Jeanne Zuker
This message is from: Jeanne Zuker jmzu...@att.net

Genie,
I am keeping you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers during
this especially challenging time, please keep us informed as best you can how
you are all doing.  While you have worried about your husband now is the time
to really take care of yourself, accept help when offered and do not be afraid
to ask for help.  I pray that you both recover and I am including you both in
my prayer circles and asking for special favors in your names.  I am so sorry
you are going through these times.

I agree, times I have felt alone or afraid
have been the times I have been comforted by first my Olaf and now my Monty.
They seem to sense when comfort is needed and provide it willingly.

Marriott free breakfast

2009-01-13 Thread Marcia Pace
This message is from: Marcia Pace mar...@elltel.net

I think everyone staying at the Marriott for the meeting will be entitled to
the free breakfast - just inquire with the Marriott. The Marriott Free
Breakfast Weekends promotion is valid Jan 15 thru March 29 with bookings
made before January 26.

I originally made my reservations before the breakfast offer with No
breakfast. I had to cancel one of my reserved nights online the other day
and my remaining Friday night popped up with the free breakfast included!

I haven't stayed at the Seatac Marriott but have stayed several times at the
Marriott Courtyard in Richland, WA - it has an excellent buffet and it
includes custom made omlets.

We have finally warmed up here in WA state and the Seattle weather should be
pleasant!

Best Color

This message is from: brass-ring-f...@juno.com

This was in one of my email newsletters:
Fjords come out pretty good since they are both dun and fat!

Does Your Horse Display the Characteristics of His Color?
Tradition, they say, can teach us a lot.
So here is what horsemen, on color, have thought.
A bay is hardy, a chestnut is fast,
and you can’t kill a buckskin: he’ll last and last.
A grey is gentle, and a sorrel is hot.
A dun is a horse you’ll be happy you bought.
White-eyes are flighty, white feet may crack.
While some won’t rely on the feet of a black.
Some pintos are lucky, like the medicine hat,
but all horsemen agree the best color is fat.

North America and Europe. Have a look at www.trinityfjords.blogspot.com you
will also be able to link to our website from there for more information.
The blog will include both Fjord activities and some personal family

I would appreciate feedback. With another season of driving vacations and

This message is from: Jan Maday run_...@verizon.net

Hi Margaret: So good to hear that Noel is back behind the reins. Thought
I'd mention that our TSRC has recently donated $$ to the Caisson Platoon at
Ft. Myer in Arlington, VA for a similar purpose. There are many returning
vets who are either paraplegic, missing limbs, and sometimes both.
Therapeutic riding has long been accepted, but now they have an accessible
cart that you can load the wheelcheer and tie it down for security...so the
therapeutic driver is in a very secure position. I'm wondering if this
might work for Noel too...and possibly if he might be eligible to access the
therapeutic driving program that's available. Might be worth checking into.
Best regards, Jan in Purcellville, VA

Erlend is moving

2009-01-13 Thread Douglas Knutsen
This message is from: Douglas Knutsen knutsenfjordf...@yahoo.com

Hi and Happy New Year to you all,

I want to congratulate Debbie Ulrich on her recent purchase of our pride
and joy, MVF Erlend. Debbie has put together a herd of finely bred mares
and fillies whose bloodlines will make nice crosses with Erlend. We
couldn?t be happier about his new home, knowing what good care Debbie
takes of her girls.

Erlend will be worked and he will have a harem again. It may take him a
while to realize that her barn is really for horses, as he has never
seen a spotless barn aisle before, but I?m sure he will adjust. Check it
out on her website www.corgihillfjords.com. Erlend now will be living
with Debbie and her girls in Winona, Minnesota.

Most of you know how attached I am to Erlend. Julie?s gift to us has been
life-changing. It?s very hard to see him go, even to such a perfect
placement. To ease the transition for all of us, I'll be flying out
there to greet him as he arrives. Then Debbie and I will fly together to
the NFHR meeting in Seattle. Hope to see you there.

Peace in the New Year,

Peg Knutsen

Insure your message gets here

2009-01-13 Thread Steve McIlree

This message is from: Steve McIlree st...@carriagehorse.com

I am writing this to let everyone in on how to insure their important
messages make it to the FjordHorse List without being delayed. There are
just a few simple things to remember to avoid any problems.

1. Be sure you send the message from the same email address at which you
receive the List. This is no problem if you have only one address, but
many of you seem to get a new address while keeping the old one at which
you subscribed to the List. Then you start sending all your email from
the new address. However the List server is set up to allow only
messages from valid subscribers. If you haven't changed your
subscription to the new address, it may sit for several days in until I
get around to digging through the offers from the ex-Prime Minister of
Nigeria and allowing your message to pass on the the List. So if you
want it to arrive quickly, be sure your sending address matches your
subscription address.

2. I used to constantly harangue everyone about being sure their
messages were sent in plain ascii text. I haven't done this for some
time because the software running on the server has been improved to
translate most alternative forms of messages into the plain text
variety. Unfortunately, this is MOST not ALL. So if you are trying to
attach a picture, or even send a message on a pretty stationary it may
get tossed into the pile along with the Nigerian mining company stocks.
So, if you want your message to get to the list with as little delay as
possible, make sure it is sent in a format which is as close to vanilla
as possible.

3. Be sure you do not use the word V-irus in you message.

I think that's about everything, but if I come up with anything else
I'll let you know.

2009-01-13 Thread Steve McIlree

This message is from: Steve McIlree st...@carriagehorse.com

One more thing.

4. If you are replying to a message, please make sure you trim the
quotation of the original message to only a sentence or two to establish
the context to which your are replying. Unfortunately, the server
software cannot enforce this bit of courtesy, however if you are
replying to the Digest, and leave the entire digest as a quotation, it
WILL toss your message into the pile with the Nigerians.

NOT!! I kinda feel like I am working myself to death. It wasn't bad while
I was still on vacation, but this deal of working a paying job 60 hours a
week, and taking care of the horses, and the land, and the house, and the
family. Wellno wonder none of you guys ever have time to watch
television!! I
am sure once the initial flurry of setting things to right and finding a
routine are done, it will be easier.

But, I absolutely love running out to visit the ponies every two hours or
so. I still expect to find that they have somehow escaped from their sturdy
electric fencing and am thrilled every time I see them still there. We have
begun easing them out onto the pasture for a few hours a day, and they are
quite pleased with that arrangement.

I must note that my ego has taken a blow as to my true place in the
hierarchy of pony interest. I confess to being smug and superior about how *my*

ponies always come running to see me when I arrive. Well - that's true when
they
are standing around a dry lot waiting for something to eat or do. I clearly
rate below grass since it's all they can be bothered to do to look at me and
make sure I'm not a coyote in Kate clothing. They'll still come back in with
me if I walk out and tap them on the shoulder, but I may have to assert
myself a bit more. Or maybe I'll just spend more time sitting and watching
them
as soon as we get some decent weather.

Not to be negative but I don't think it gets any easier. Even though I knew
keeping horses was a lot of work, I didn't have any idea until I actually was
doing it. It seems ok when you are off work for a few days or when you can't
ride for some reason but I find it frequently overwhelming to work, ride and
take care of horses and a farm especially if you try to do anything else. I
used to complain when I boarded my horses about this and that that the people
who owned whatever barn I was at did or didn't do. I couldn't figure out what
their problem was until I was them. I am not saying it is not rewarding and
advantageous in a lot of ways but taking care of horses at home is not for the
faint of heart.
