Just to clarify, this is still an issue. I just had a server lock
(Hard lock) with the same stack as Tony provided.

Thanks,
Kyle.

It seems that the thing has caught up our servers. No noticeable lag
spikes except when you go and play on a server yourself. Definitely
something still up and wrong.

2011-03-17 Thread Andres Pozos

Last orangebox update(there was some hidden)?

No problems on any game for us on linux. No complaints from players and we
don't see any spikes but there are some cs1.6 servers on next rack by other
customers that suffer issues. This looks pretty random.

while now (though I haven't been able to get on and see for myself due to

I've still been hearing complaints in the last day, though again I

Re: [hlds_linux] Lag spikes

2011-03-16 Thread Andres Pozos

So its already fixed or still pending?

There is a synchronous call to Steam to locate the error reporting server. The
error reporting server went AWOL so the call to Steam got blocked. We are
looking into how we can avoid this in future. This call may not even be
necessary any more since we have moved to breakpad for crash reporting.

Hey Milton,

Do you have any more details in regards to the problem? I'm troubled by the
fact that there is any synchronous networking in srcds/steamclient. Fixing
some servers on your backend isn't going to magically remove any synchronous
waiting unless I am misunderstanding something.

Maybe would be better to try -nomaster parameter. Btw I did not try yet.

If it is every 5 minutes, then the chances are high that a master server is
broken, because the heartbeat is running every 5 minutes.

Hey,

For a couple of hours now (15-16) there are strange lag spikes in my
servers. Every 5-6-7 minutes, server ( players) freeze for 1-4 seconds.
2 machine - 2 different providers - same problem. The machines are fine,
no flood, ping's fine. My only logical explanation is that they're all
connected to steam and that's causing the spikes.

My problem with Valve is just that they don't acknowledge this bug/error/issue.

We have checked everything - from hardware to configuration and internet

Problem exists even on clean machines with 1-3 gameservers running

I've got also signals from other companies about this problem.

Hey Milton,

Do you have any more details in regards to the problem? I'm troubled by the
fact that there is any synchronous networking in srcds/steamclient. Fixing
some servers on your backend isn't going to magically remove any synchronous

There is a synchronous call to Steam to locate the error reporting server. The
error reporting server went AWOL so the call to Steam got blocked. We are
looking into how we can avoid this in future. This call may not even be

There is a synchronous call to Steam to locate the error reporting server.
The error reporting server went AWOL so the call to Steam got blocked. We
are looking into how we can avoid this in future.

I just wanted to say that I host some cs 1.6 servers whose already get
-insecure because they use another anticheat tool and even they have same

Maybe would be better to try -nomaster parameter. Btw I did not try yet.

Lagspikes up to 1000ms and some clients even drop off the servers.

Many different provideras in different locations and with different ISPs.
Any ideas what could cause this behaviour?

You'll need at least 10 more complaints before that happens :) I did
have a friend of mine mention his euro servers were lagging arse
though for the past while and it wasn't network based.

Hello,

Surely this amount of providers all on different networks should warrant
a quick 5 minute check.

Same Issue here. Since yesterday 17th May 2009 we see every few minutes
spiekes in HLSW and ingame there is a short lag of 1 or 2 seconds. It feels
and looks like the VAC issue mentioned in December 2008 and January 2009. I
think this is a valve / steam issue and they have to fix it again.

Re: [hlds_linux] Lag Spikes [Euro]

2009-05-18 Thread Thomas Hjorth
We are getting these lags as well... Both mostly srcds servers, but a
few hlds customers have complained about lags... the lag varies from
rarely to quite often.

I have been going through gameservers, storageservers, network/switches,
firewalls and cant find anything wrong... nothing load/performance wise
anyway... The lags are there even far away from peak-hours.
