Windows + E, you are correct in that it has been around for quite some time.
This trick just makes it easier for me since that keyboard does not have a
right windows key.

It came to me this afternoon while we were on the phone to be exact as to
when, and it did not take much to work out the bugs. Thanks to you and Mike

Dave,
The Windows +E keystroke has been around since at least Windows XP, as far
as I can tell.
By default, it opens the Windows Search, and will open a more tailored
search in Outlook Express.
I haven't tested it in other programs.
Nice tweak on your keyboard!

Mr. Mike, mine does not do a thing with control + E. Now if I recall you
have got the market cornered for hotkeys. Honestly I doubt I could remember
all of them you have assigned.

Some further explanation might be in order. Now on my living room systems
that share a wireless keyboard without a right windows key I can now open up
the run dialog with control + R instead of twisting my left hand to
accomplish the same result. This is a function I use many times in an
average day.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ElBraille questions.

2017-03-10 Thread Judy Jones
Hi again.

I actually did some checking today with VFO, and the El Braille is actually
a docking station for the focus 40 or 14. A docking station with memory
storage. The price, $1795.

Here is my question. If you get a laptop, say, for $800, add in $995, I
believe it is for Jaws, that would come to roughly the same price, but you
would have probably a terabite of memory on the PC, only 160 GB on the
ElBraille. What would be the incentive for bying this docking station with
memory, other than size advantage? I asked the salesman to help me
understand that rationale so I could hellp sell the idea to our agency. He
could not come up with anything. Am I missing something here?

The ElBraille is essentially a Windows 10 PC in a notetaker sized package.

You can use Internet Explorer or Firefox.

If you already use Jaws on a PC with a braille display then the
experience should be the same.

I havent used the Polaris so I cant comment on any differences.

Re: [JAWS-Users] getting rid of paragraph marks in email

2017-03-10 Thread Brian Lee
Thank you Adrian, I missed the point that Judy is using 2003.

One thing I noticed about the new line and paragraph indication setting is
that JAWS automatically changes the setting to indicate "when reading" when
the word marks are showing. If at that point you change the JAWS indication
to "off" the marks could still be showing but won't be indicated. However,
you are quite right, in Word 2003 using CTRL with shift and 8 to turn of the
marks should cause the marks not to be showing or indicated in the document.

Take care.

Brian,

I haven't used your method, but I plan to. Two points. First, Judy is using
Outlook 2003, so I assumed she'd using Word 2003. Either way, she now has
all the ways JAWS have at our disposal to overcome that annoying paragraph
mark problem.

Second, I take your point that the old and new methods for toggling on and
off what amounts to the partial WordPerfect reveal codes affects the visual
display, but it also has the effect of stopping JAWS from verbalizing
paragraph marks. At any rate, that's my recollection. Although I am a daily
Word 2010 user, I haven't needed to use any of these controls for a long
time.

Thank you for this quick settings suggestion and for several other very
useful posts I've saved.

Hello Adrian,

That keystroke is not for whether or not JAWS speaks the paragraph marks.
The CTRL Shift 8 command was Word's way to show or hide paragraph marks for
anyone whether or not using JAWS. In Word 2013 the keystroke doesn't work.
Instead, Alt followed by H followed by 8 is the way marks are shown or
hidden in Word 2013. Whether or not JAWS indicates the marks is controlled
by the New Lines and paragraph indication setting.

Hello David and all:

I don't know if you are familiar with Auto Hot Key, but it is a free program
that enables you to assing hot keys to just about anything, including being
able to paste blocks of text that are repetitive just about anywhere. It is
accessible with Jaws, works off a text file which you can prepare using a
text editor, but it takes a bit of a learning curve. I use it daily since
quite a while ago, it allows me, for instance, to assign Alt-Windows-O to
open Outlook from the Run menu without add-ons, or assign a combination of
six leeters that do not form a word to a few paragraphs of repetitive text,
which I can then paste on an email, document or elsewhere by just typing the
six letters and the space bar.

Just an idea for those that may want to look into it.

My wireless keyboard has only a left handed windows key, but most of the

it crossed my mind this afternoon that with a script it might bebe possible
to simulate such an animal assigning say control + R which so far as I am

scripts to do the following functions. Open up the run dialog and open up

This inspiration came to me from Mr. Mike, because he sent me a script last

I’ll probably post them on the server this evening and maybe a recording

2017-03-10 Thread Rick Justice
Dave,
The Windows +E keystroke has been around since at least Windows XP, as far
as I can tell.

Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting for keyboards with only a single windows key

2017-03-10 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello David and all:

I don't know if you are familiar with Auto Hot Key, but it is a free program
that enables you to assing hot keys to just about anything, including being
able to paste blocks of text that are repetitive just about anywhere. It is
accessible with Jaws, works off a text file which you can prepare using a text
editor, but it takes a bit of a learning curve. I use it daily since quite a
while ago, it allows me, for instance, to assign Alt-Windows-O to open Outlook
from the Run menu without add-ons, or assign a combination of six leeters that
do not form a word to a few paragraphs of repetitive text, which I can then
paste on an email, document or elsewhere by just typing the six letters and the
space bar.

Just an idea for those that may want to look into it.

Regards,

Humberto

My wireless keyboard has only a left handed windows key, but most of the time

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather Underground has changed

2017-03-10 Thread Shane Hecker
In this case, it's not the research it causing the issue. The mobile
site which was m.wund.com is down. So when that happens, it redirects to
www.wunderground.com which is the desktop site. The research it feature
doesn't know how to interact with the desktop site, which causes it to
say that it couldn't find any results. I'm not for sure on this, but I
thought FS had a way to program new items into the research it function.
Either that or they were going to make a way for this to be done. If
they haven't done this, it would be a useful feature to add.

Hello Judy,

One thing you can try is to make sure the "new lines and paragraphs" option
in quick settings is set to off. Use JAWS key V and in the quick settings
search box type in "new lines" (without quotes) and use down arrow to the
result. Use spacebar if it is not set to Off already. Repeatedly pressing
spacebar cycles among the options for the setting. Once set to Off tab to
the OK button and use spacebar.

Take care.

One thing I have also noticed about Weather Underground is that they don't
carry streams of NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts from various cities like they
used to.

I can get some of the ones I'm most interested in via tunin radio, but it
was nice to have them all in one place on the Wunderground site.

Perhaps something with the web site has changed, making it more difficult to
access the NWR streaming broadcasts like I used to with Jaws, but I'm not
sure.

If anyone wants to comment directly on this, we probably should take it off
list, so as to not be too far off topic.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Replacing paragraph marks

2017-03-10 Thread Adrian Spratt
Two additional thoughts. First, if there are any paragraph marks left over,
it's because there were more than two in one or more spots in the document.

Second, if you wish you hadn't done the search-and-replace, you can undo it
with control-z. Of course, control-z must be pressed before any other key is.

It sounds like these are the kind of links that JAWS verbalizes as something
like, "Same page link." They can be confusing. One method that often works in
such cases is to note the wording in the link, then search for some or all of
that search string to take you to the relevant part of the page.

Re: [JAWS-Users] What are key strokes for the following tasks in MS Word?

2017-03-10 Thread Brian Lee
Hello,

Here are a few ways to work with footnotes and endnotes in word:

1. How to see footnotes.

In Word 2013 use alt followed by S followed by H.

If you use quick NAV mode you use JAWS key Z to go into quick NAV mode and
then use O.

You can use Windows key with semicolon, choose footnotes from the list, and
arrow down to find links to the footnotes and the footnote text is shown
below each link.

2. How to listen footnote while jaws is focusing at footnote number in the
body of main paragraph.

There is a "On with text" quick setting for footnotes that is to announce
footnotes as you navigate by line. I have not been able to get it to work.

3. How to Insert footnote.

Use Alt CTRL F.

5. how to come back to body of main paragraph after finishing editing
footnote.

Use shift with F5. If after using the keystroke focus doesn't leave the
footnote then try using it again. You might need to wait a bit of time in
larger documents. Shift F5 pressed repeatedly cycles between the last four
editing areas in the document.

6. how to see and read endnotes.

Quick NAV key D after using JAWS key Z to turn on quick nav.

Alt followed by S followed by H shows footnotes and endnotes. If you have
both types of notes in the document a dialog box appears after using that
keystroke with radio buttons for checking which type of note to view.

You can use Windows key with semicolon, choose endnotes from the list, and
arrow down to find links to the endnotes and the endnote text is shown below
each link.

If you are using the traditional Find dialog box in Word you can do a find
for footnotes using ^f and for endnotes using ^e and then use CTRL with PGDN
or PGUP to move to next or previous footnotes.

(Alt Shift period and Alt shift comma are supposed to also work for moving
to next and previous footnotes but those keystrokes don't seem to work on my
system).

Take care.

follows for me:
1. Type the message recipients name.
2. Add any CCs or BCCs in their appropriate fields.
3. Type in the Subject information, if any.
4. Press the ALt key to activate the menu bar, and right arrow to the Insert

see that there are links on the left side and I can get Jaws to read them
and I can also enter on them. When I enter on them it opens the story on the
right side of the website. I cannot figure out how to get Jaws to go over to
that side of the page. Using the H keystroke for headings does not work.
Does anyone have any idea what I could try to do to make this website work
with Jaws?

Mr. Ed

[JAWS-Users] Replacing paragraph marks

2017-03-10 Thread Ralph Supernaw
Hi,

I would like to replace every occurance of two consecutive paragraph marks
with some other character in a Word document. I attempted to copy the
paragraph mark character into the "replace" field but was not successful.
How can I accomplish this?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] sending attachments on wlm

2017-03-10 Thread jyandt.martin
The steps for sending an attachment, with JAWS 17, and Windows 10 are as
follows for me:

1. Type the message recipients name.
2. Add any CCs or BCCs in their appropriate fields.
3. Type in the Subject information, if any.
4. Press the ALt key to activate the menu bar, and right arrow to the Insert
Tab. Press Enter

5. Use the Down Arrow once to select attachment.
6. Select the location of the file you want to attach i.e., Documents,
Pictures, etc.

7. Once the specific file has been found, press enter.
8. You will be returned to the Subject Edit field. Press Tab to go to the
body of the message.

Hope this helps.

2017-03-10 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

There is also an update for JAWS 16, JAWS 16.0.4474. I assume it is
equivalent to the JAWS 17 update, but I haven't seen the list of
enhancements.

The ElBraille is essentially a Windows 10 PC in a notetaker sized package.

You can use Internet Explorer or Firefox.

If you already use Jaws on a PC with a braille display then the
experience should be the same.

I havent used the Polaris so I cant comment on any differences.
