I just learned that hp has a special support number for individuals with

Anyway for what it is worth the number is: 877-656-7058

Hi Miriam,

Maybe your Auto Forms mode setting was accidentally changed. You can go
into Settings Center, Jaws key + 6 on the number row, to check it. It
sounds like it might have been switched to manual mode.

Ever since level 2 worked on my computer yesterday, forms mode does not come
on automatically when I press tab. I can't remember which version of Jaws it
was where you still had to press enter to go into forms mode, but I have to
do that now on websites like BARD and Jaws says, "forms mode off" each time
it goes off which I don't think it usually does. Also, the list that comes
up for auto complete with control K is incomplete. The current address for
the DB Review list wasn't in that list at all, just two previous addresses.

I wish that I would have tested everything within the first 15 days when I
could return the unit. Last evening I wanted to make a few copies. That
option is no longer available using the software in your computer. It is
only on the printer control panel which can not be used by a blind
individual. In order to make copies you now must scan to a pdf or jpg file,
save it then locate and print the file.
What is worse is since I installed the printer I can no longer use openbook.
When I run it I get a message that it is not responding. I have been using
hp printers since the 1970s and openbook when arkenstone first developed the
system.

That metal stand sounds nice. My Focus 80 at work came with a stand. When i use
a braille display that doesn’t have a stand, i use a thin print book to raise
up the keyboard. One Christmas my sister gave me a nice cutting board that a
friend of hers made . It never made it to the kitchen because it made a
perfect stand for a keyboard in back of my Brailliant 64.

Well, the level 2 guy emptied auto complete because it wasn't working
properly. It was providing addresses that had nothing to do with the first
few letters. He told me that in order to rebuild it, I should write in the
first few letters and then press control K which would bring up a list of
relevant addresses. I should arrow down to the correct address and press
enter. That address would then be filled in and would be part of my
reconstruction of auto complete. So I was trying to send an email to the
blind democracy list. I found the correct address. However, even though I
followed his directions, auto complete filled in a different address which
belonged to someone who used "blind" and his first name and whose address
was in the list. Finally, I went to a word document where I'd stored the
blind democracy address and copied and pasted it into the to field. The next
time I tried to use auto complete for the blind democracy list, the correct
address was filled in, but Jaws didn't read it until I pressed enter. The
Jaws users name was filled in but again, Jaws didn't read it the way it

Hi.

If you are having problems with auto-complete for entering recipient in the
"to" field in Outlook, here's something that might work. At least, it works
in Outlook 2010, and I believe I once tested this on 2016 at work, too.
Enter in the first few letters of the recipient. For example, for this list,
I might type in "jaws". Write your message and use your send command. If
there's more than one address that matches the criteria of what you entered,
a list of matches will pop up before you send the message, and you can
select the one that applies.

Not sure if this will really help you, but I notice that people often seem
to have issues with JAWS and auto-complete, in that they don't know when an
address has been filled out.

Enter in the first few letters of the recipient. For example, for this list, I
might type in "jaws". Write your message and use your send command. If there's
more than one address that matches the criteria of what you entered, a list of
matches will pop up before you send the message, and you can select the one
that applies.

Not sure if this will really help you, but I notice that people often seem to
have issues with JAWS and auto-complete, in that they don't know when an
address has been filled out.

Well George,

Here's my latest report. I was looking at my to Miriam folder this evening with
Magic and its voice, and I noted that BARD sent me an email that The New Yorker
had arrived and was inserted into my wish list. So, in order to download it, I
turned on Jaws 18, downloaded the magazine, and transferred it to an SD card
for my VR Stream. While Jaws was still running, I went back to my to Miriam
folder in Outlook, and had no problem looking through the list of emails and
reading some of them. I then sent a second article to the blind democracy list
and this time, the auto complete worked beautifully.
The first time, I had to copy the blind democracy address from a document where
I've stored it because the auto complete wouldn't work. I was sure that if I
moved from the to Miriam folder to the inbox while jaws is running, Outlook
would crash. However, here I am, responding to your email which, with all the
other emails from lists, is in the inbox. Outlook didn't crash. Jaws is fine.

I'm sure the problem isn't solved. That article that I sent to the blind
democracy list got there, but another copy was sitting around and refusing to
leave or explain why it was there. Eventually some buttons appeared and I tried
pressing them and one of them made the extra copy disappear. I'll stop while
I'm ahead and wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Ever since level 2 worked on my computer yesterday, forms mode does not come

was where you still had to press enter to go into forms mode, but I have to
do that now on websites like BARD and Jaws says, "forms mode off" each time
it goes off which I don't think it usually does. Also, the list that comes
up for auto complete with control K is incomplete. The current address for
the DB Review list wasn't in that list at all, just two previous addresses.

Hi everyone.

I'm using Windows 10 1709 with JAWS 18. I use a few old programs, like
Soulseek nS, where I have most noticed this issue, but I've noted it using
other programs as well; just can't think of them at the moment. This slsk
program requires some JAWS cursor use, to move the mouse pointer, open the
search dialog, etc. Usually, it works fine, although if the window ever
accidentally gets minimised, I lose access to the program entirely and have
to restart it - I think this is some incompatibility issue with Windows 10.
Now, periodically, I have noticed that when the window is up, and I am
trying to use the jAWS cursor to move around, it will seem to get stuck.
Instead of saying "blank" or not saying anything (as was reported by another
user a few weeks back), it will say a bunch of really weird stuff, like it
is seeing an example of every kind of control and attribute and trying to
report them, even though they are not there. It will say stuff like "checked
unchecked pressed clickable draggable droppable invalid entry read only",
and I won't be able to move the cursor anywhere. I have noticed that
resizing the window or routing the cursor to PC sometimes solves the
problem, but not consistently. As I know this behaviour manifests in other
things, too, I was wondering if anyone had experienced this, and what you do
to "free up" the cursor. Any thoughts?

2018-04-24 Thread Gerald Levy

I suggest that you go to Fast.com to check your Internet download speed. It
has been my experience that this problem can be caused by excessively slow
Internet download speeds. If Fast.com shows that your Internet speed is
less than say, 500 kbps, then contact your ISP to determine whether you have
an Internet connectivity problem.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with receiving e-mails and password

Hi Everyone,

I have JAWS 13, Windows 7 and Outlook 2010

In the past couple of weeks, I have been having problems receiving e-mails.
Usually I would receive from 150 to 200 e-mails a day. Now I am lucky if I
receive 100 e-mails a day. This problem must have started a few weeks ago.
In the past, as soon as I would turn on my computer all my new e-mails would
instantly appear and now it takes quite a long time for them to appear. I
have sent myself test e-mails to see, but even if I press F-9, my new
e-mails will not appear quickly as they did in the past.

Around the same time of this problem happening, when ever I was in my
Outlook screen either preparing an e-mail, or reading my e-mails, I would
get a pop up saying something to the effect of Internetproviders name and it
would ask me to enter my password which I never had. As soon as I would
press Escape it would take me back to my document. Before, it may have
happened once a day, but today it is happening every minute or so. It is
quite annoying. I am sure that these two problems are somehow connected.

For a very long time I had Verizon as my provider and for some reason
Verizon purchased AOL and they are running the e-mails.

Any help will be greatly appreciated on how I can alleviate these problems.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Level 2

2018-04-24 Thread Miriam Vieni
The
Jaws users name was filled in but again, Jaws didn't read it the way it
normally does. I think I had to press enter or manually read the line. So it
seems to me that Jaws isn't working properly with auto complete or auto
complete isn't working properly or something.

Hi there! As long as the device you want JAWS to default to is available,
it should use that device every time. If for some reason, Windows doesn't

[JAWS-Users] The JAWS cursor in Windows 10, and certain programs

2018-04-24 Thread JM Casey

Hi there! You can change where JAWS sends speech by using the sound
cards submenu located in the utilities menu in JAWS. If you are in
the JAWS window, press Alt plus the letter U.

2018-04-24 Thread JM Casey

Well George,

Here's my latest report. I was looking at my to Miriam folder this evening
with Magic and its voice, and I noted that BARD sent me an email that The
New Yorker had arrived and was inserted into my wish list. So, in order to
download it, I turned on Jaws 18, downloaded the magazine, and transferred
it to an SD card for my VR Stream. While Jaws was still running, I went back
to my to Miriam folder in Outlook, and had no problem looking through the
list of emails and reading some of them. I then sent a second article to the
blind democracy list and this time, the auto complete worked beautifully.
The first time, I had to copy the blind democracy address from a document
where I've stored it because the auto complete wouldn't work. I was sure
that if I moved from the to Miriam folder to the inbox while jaws is
running, Outlook would crash. However, here I am, responding to your email
which, with all the other emails from lists, is in the inbox. Outlook didn't
crash. Jaws is fine.

I'm sure the problem isn't solved. That article that I sent to the blind
democracy list got there, but another copy was sitting around and refusing
to leave or explain why it was there. Eventually some buttons appeared and I
tried pressing them and one of them made the extra copy disappear. I'll stop
while I'm ahead and wonder what tomorrow will bring.

As soon as I moved from MAGic and JAWS18 to Fusion I have a very disturbing

In case anyone is interested, the Microsoft Level 2 Disabilities tech guy
was unable to solve my Outlook 2016 problem. I am able to write this email
because Jaws is turned off and I'm using the Magic voice. This allows me to
move from the inbox to the to Miriam folder and to move through the list of
emails and open and read them. However, although he emptied out the auto
reply and told me how to get it to function properly, his directions don't
work consistently. They worked for this email, I think. We'll see if it gets
to the correct place. The directions did not work for my blind democracy
list. The incorrect address was placed in the to field, no matter what I
did. The tech thinks there's a conflict between Jaws and Outlook 2016,
something about the Jaws driver. He's sending the problem up to Level three.
Meanwhile, I'm receiving some messages in duplicate. Yesterday, David worked
with me for hours to try to fix things, and he was unable to do so. The new
account that he set up in Optimum, apparently wouldn't work because today,
with Microsoft, I had to go back to the password for the original account. I
am so grateful for all David's time and patience. I know that I will need
him again to tidy things up if Microsoft can actually get Outlook to work
with Jaws.

I would appreciate step by step directions for putting back my permanent
blind copy field, but pehaps, I'll need to wait to do that until Jaws is

Hi Al,

It sounds like your email client is asking you to insert your password as if
your email provider has forgotten it or something. Are you saying that you
never had a password, or you haven't entered it when getting this message?
If you don't know your password a new one will need to be created from the
sounds of things. Sometimes in Outlook Express the Protected Storage
component gets corrupted, and I get the same message, but reinstalling OE6
repairs it, then entering my password makes everything right again. Try
entering your password to see if that helps, if you have it.

You can also use alt windows I to just use it without having to turn it on.
It will go from inconsistency to inconsistency.

I finally used Text Analyzer the other day and found that it picked up such
things as change in font when text was bolded or italicized. You can turn
this feature on and off in JAWS' quick settings men (insert-v). another way
to get this information while reading is with JAWS' speech and sounds, but I
haven't used it in a while and was hoping someone with more experience would
reply with more specifics.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Stand for keyboard and Focus braille display

2018-04-24 Thread Debby
That metal stand sounds nice. My Focus 80 at work came with a stand. When i use
a braille display that doesn’t have a stand, i use a thin print book to raise
up the keyboard. One Christmas my sister gave me a nice cutting board that a
friend of hers made . It never made it to the kitchen because it made a
perfect stand for a keyboard in back of my Brailliant 64.

Miriam,
That is very interesting, a conflict between Office 365 & JAWS. It happens
often but never heard of it like this with Outlook.
As soon as I moved from MAGic and JAWS18 to Fusion I have a very disturbing
issue with my QuickBooks. I believe this is definitely an issue with JAWS
because my sighted son makes QuickBooks work fine without JAWS18.
One of these days when fixing one issue or another the VFO team will make a

I know that I will need
him again to tidy things up if Microsoft can actually get Outlook to work
with Jaws.

I would appreciate step by step directions for putting back my permanent
blind copy field, but pehaps, I'll need to wait to do that until Jaws is
working again. There are things that the Magic voice can't do.
