Thanks, Guy. I approved them. I've used FreeSans in the past to test Hebrew, but I had no idea that the Hebrew output actually looked good to users who actually know Hebrew. Last step for translations of LyX 2.3.0: strings in PDF output
Dear translators, Thank you for all of your help so far on translations. First, I would like to apologize for sending this email much later than I should have. We are hoping to release 2.3.0 within a week, and I'm hoping that you are able to find time before then to read and process this email, which contains an important remaining issue to complete before release. In the attached file, you will find a list of translations which will appear in exported documents, not only in the GUI. For more information about this "layouttranslations" file, see the file README.localization [1]. These translations will be fixed for the 2.3.x release cycle, since the contents of documents must not change between minor releases. It is still possible to add or change these translations in .po files as usual, but these updates will only be used for the GUI and will not appear in the file layouttranslations. The following list has items consisting of a list of languages, followed by string(s). If your language appears in the list of languages, please look in the attached file for the string(s), and respond to this email to specify explicitly whether the translations are correct. If a fix is needed, please update the po file for the 2.3.x branch as usual. The layouttranslations file will be regenerated automatically from the .po files before the final 2.3.0 release. bg ca gl ko sl tr : These language need a complete review of the attached translations. hu id ro sr : "Property" "Solution" "Listing" "Listings" ar bg ca da el es fi gl he hu ia id ko nb nl nn pl ro sl sr sv tr uk zh_CN zh_TW : "List of Listings" ar bg ca da el fi gl he hu ia id ja ko nb nl nn pl ro sl sr sv tr zh_CN zh_TW : "Nomenclature[[output]]" -> The string that is output to PDF for the nomenclature list "see equation[[nomencl]]" "page[[nomencl]]" Thank you very much for your time and help! Thanks for this detailed update, Jean-Pierre. I agree with your changes for AGUTeX since I was familiar with that particular situation and since we had not decided on the final release date. As for the other obsolete layout files and classes, now that we have decided the final release could be in a week or so, I would prefer to not make those changes at this point. These removals should ideally be done at the beginning of the release cycle. Further, I'm worried that we could miss something (e.g. forgetting to change the Make files or making a typo in the Make files). I'm sorry if it seemed like I gave the green light to go through all the obsolete layout files. If both you and Uwe disagree with me and express your disagreement by Monday and you can complete all of the work by Monday, I could be convinced with these extra removals. Otherwise, I would suggest going forward with the work on master. Thanks for your work on this, Scott signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Hopefully Koji can test rc1 to make sure everything looks good. I can compile the Japanese docs (with dvipdfx, not with ps2pdf) so if you ever want me to test something, let me know. And since I think you have access to Linux, if you want help setting things up so that compilation works, I think we would be able to figure it out. Scott signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Japanese docs: incorrect paths?
Open ja/Embedded.lyx. Scroll down a bit and you will see that some images are not found. For example, 2D-intensity-plot.pdf. The path for this one is: /clipart/2D-intensity-plot.pdf From what I understand, it should be: ../clipart/2D-intensity-plot.pdf right? Or am I misunderstanding something? I think there are many cases. Note that not all images should be prepended with "..". It depends on whether the image is localized (there is a "clipart" folder inside the folder "ja"). Also, why don't missing images give an error when compiling? This way our ctests would have caught this problem. Uwe, do you happen to have time to take a look at what is going wrong? Sweave homepage does not exist anymore (remove URL?)
Dear LyX docs, In our Sweave example, we reference the previous homepage of Sweave: http://www.stat.uni-muenchen.de/~leisch/Sweave/ Sweave does not have a homepage. For one, it is now in base R. Second, it is not as commonly used as it used to be, since many users have transitioned to knitr. I propose to change The homepage of Sweave is at http://www.stat.uni-muenchen.de/~leisch/Sweave/ to The Sweave user manual is at https://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/utils/doc/Sweave.pdf Any objection? remove reference to a0poster-kh ?
Dear LyX docs, In our template poster-a0poster-simple.lyx, we make a reference to a0poster-kh, with the URL http://www.physik.uni-augsburg.de/theo3/Comp/hp750c/computing_hp750c_A0.de.shtml The URL is broken, and a0poster-kh does not seem to be popular anymore. Note, however, that I did find it posted online somewhere: https://github.com/sebastianbergmann/academic-papers/blob/master/2006/aosd/a0poster-kh.tex Can I remove the bullet point in that template? It currently says: The a0poster-kh package (http://www.physik.uni-augsburg.de/theo3/Comp/hp750c/computing_hp750c_A0.de.shtml) provides additional commands for color, headings, columns, and boxes, but those are not natively supported by LyX. Does one still need to set esint to use always for section 10.1 of User Guide?
Regarding the sentence To be able to use all integral operators listed here, the option Use esint package automatically must be set in the document settings under Math Options, is that still true? If so, can someone please explain why? I thought we took care of this automatically now. Scott

Should I say sorry for not using Windex or the stupid Maple? Never! Well, mainly I didn't write you to ask for advises on how to install APA and APA6 new LaTex files, I just wanted to let you to know that this standards/styles are so much used (almost exclusively) for writing papers in human sciences, from articles to doctoral thesis, and within Psychology (where the style was created) to almost any other human science (just name it). These being said, it would be very nice from you, a bunch of positive scientists, to think at as, poor human scientists, too, and include within the next update these styles (APA and APA6), as available document classes. And until than, some specific advises on how to install these missing LaTex files I downloaded from CTAN, would be so much welcome. Thanx! Folks, you did such a good job with this application, but for the moment it is a little bit narrow without the most used styles (I'd say 90%+) in human sciences, which are the APA APA6 standards (both, because many human sciences still favor the old APA style). Thanks for your understanding, and hoping for a both, human positive answer. Bests, P.G. (not Peter Gabriel, he singes much humbler: p.g.) Hi Patrick, Thank you for thoughtful email. It's always nice to receive feedback on what we're doing right and what we need to do better. It's nice to see LaTeX and LyX being used more widely outside of math-based disciplines. It really does have a lot of features that should not be limited to publications with math. LyX is a frontend to LaTeX. What that means is that LyX does the formatting then hands it off to LaTeX. You are asking about installing LaTeX files. That is not the job of LyX. It is the job of your LaTeX package (TeX Live in Ubuntu) or of your package manager (apt in Ubuntu). I don't see how LyX could make the process easier without going far outside of its purview. Please let me know if you disagree or if you have any further feedback on this. These are just my opinions. Now to your question. I suggest you google install LaTeX packages in Ubuntu. Alternatively, you might be interested in a script that I wrote: https://github.com/scottkosty/install-tl-ubuntu With just a couple commands you can install everything you will ever need for using LyX and LaTeX and all of the document classes in LyX will become available. If you want to use it, I recommend you remove your current TeX Live files: sudo apt-get purge texlive-* Then download the script with: wget https://github.com/scottkosty/install-tl-ubuntu/raw/master/install-tl-ubuntu chmod +x ./install-tl-ubuntu Then take a look at the options you might want: ./install-tl-ubuntu --help For example, you might like the --more-tex option, which installs all LaTeX files needed for LyX. Then, run with: sudo ./install-tl-ubuntu --more-tex Note that this will take a long time. I recommend you run it before you go to bed. After it is done, restart your computer. Then in LyX go to Tools Reconfigure. Then restart LyX. Now the document classes should all be available. lyx-es : a mailing list for Spanish speakers
We've created a mailing list for users interested in communicating in Spanish. To subscribe send a blank email to lyx-es-subscr...@lists.lyx.org. You'll receive an email a minute later. Reply to that email and you'll get another email confirming that you've successfully subscribed. To send an email to the list, the address is lyx...@lists.lyx.org. If you decide the subscribe, feel free to send an email presenting yourself. There's only a few of us now and the list will probably be low-traffic. I hope to see you there, Scott

Sounds good, Dan. Please ask if you have any questions. Just as a note, the way I got started developing in LyX was by reading very carefully the documentation and sending in patches.
