Thanks, Guy. I approved them. I've used FreeSans in the past to test
Hebrew, but I had no idea that the Hebrew output actually looked good to
users who actually know Hebrew. That's good to know since they are
indeed much easier to set up than Culmus fonts.

Dear Asiel,

Thank you for your feedback. I think that putting WYSIWYM is correct.
WYSIWYM stands for "what you see is what you mean." By default, LyX does
not show WYSIWYG math. This can be configured with instant preview, but
it is turned off by default.

Dear translators,

Thank you for all of your help so far on translations. First, I would
like to apologize for sending this email much later than I should have.
We are hoping to release 2.3.0 within a week, and I'm hoping that you
are able to find time before then to read and process this email, which
contains an important remaining issue to complete before release.

In the attached file, you will find a list of translations which will
appear in exported documents, not only in the GUI. For more information
about this "layouttranslations" file, see the file
README.localization [1].

These translations will be fixed for the 2.3.x release cycle, since the
contents of documents must not change between minor releases. It is
still possible to add or change these translations in .po files as
usual, but these updates will only be used for the GUI and will not
appear in the file layouttranslations.


The following list has items consisting of a list of languages, followed
by string(s). If your language appears in the list of languages, please
look in the attached file for the string(s), and respond to this email
to specify explicitly whether the translations are correct. If a fix is
needed, please update the po file for the 2.3.x branch as usual. The
layouttranslations file will be regenerated automatically from the .po
files before the final 2.3.0 release.

Thanks for this detailed update, Jean-Pierre.

I agree with your changes for AGUTeX since I was familiar with that
particular situation and since we had not decided on the final release
date. As for the other obsolete layout files and classes, now that we
have decided the final release could be in a week or so, I would prefer
to not make those changes at this point. These removals should ideally
be done at the beginning of the release cycle.  Further, I'm worried
that we could miss something (e.g. forgetting to change the Make files
or making a typo in the Make files). I'm sorry if it seemed like I gave
the green light to go through all the obsolete layout files. If both you
and Uwe disagree with me and express your disagreement by Monday and you
can complete all of the work by Monday, I could be convinced with these
extra removals. Otherwise, I would suggest going forward with the work
on master.

Thanks for the quick fixes, Uwe! Hopefully Koji can test rc1 to make
sure everything looks good.

I can compile the Japanese docs (with dvipdfx, not with ps2pdf) so if
you ever want me to test something, let me know. And since I think you
have access to Linux, if you want help setting things up so that
compilation works, I think we would be able to figure it out.

Open ja/Embedded.lyx. Scroll down a bit and you will see that some
images are not found. For example, 2D-intensity-plot.pdf. The path for
this one is:

/clipart/2D-intensity-plot.pdf

From what I understand, it should be:

../clipart/2D-intensity-plot.pdf

right? Or am I misunderstanding something?

I think there are many cases.

Note that not all images should be prepended with "..". It depends on
whether the image is localized (there is a "clipart" folder inside the
folder "ja").

Also, why don't missing images give an error when compiling? This way
our ctests would have caught this problem.

I believe you are running into this bug:

It's good to know that you see the problem with cocoa but not with
carbon. I guess it could also be due to the differences in the Qt
versions (4 vs. 5). Would you be willing to test 2.3.0beta1 when it is
released (next week) to see if you see the problem?

The solution is to remove the \pagebreak. I just don't know if it causes
problems (I imagine it was added for a reason).

I think the examples are in a good state. Hopefully someone else can +1
the inclusion into LyX and then we can go forward from there.

Looks good, thanks! A minor issue: the cases do not much. In LyX it is
included as "logo.svg" but the filename is "Logo.svg". On Linux (or more
specifically, any file system that is case sensitive) this means the
file is not found. We should change one or the other.

One other minor issue: there is an empty page at the end of both .lyx
files. The empty page goes away if I remove the "\pagebreak" that is in
ERT at the end. Is there a reason to have that?

I think you are right that using a csv is better than adr (I had never
heard of adr so I'm not surprised that they are ancient). If we add your
examples I think we should reference serial letter, and in serial letter
we should reference your example.

I'm personally convinced that your example is good to add (but we should
see what others think). But we might want to clean it up a bit if we can

For the English version, I now get:

When I compile the Arabic version, I get the following errors:

Missing character: There is no ا in font cmmi10!
and there are many such errors.

I do have the fonts Scheherazade installed.

You don't get these errors?

Some additional comments:

- you did not send crown.png. Do you have the rights to the image? (i.e.
  can we include it?) if not, we can find an image that is free to use.

- there is a fair amount of ERT. I think we can reduce this.

Oops, no not at all. Sorry for that. I copied that because I use
Chromium but BBC still doesn't support HTML5 videos so often copy/paste
over to Chrome to watch Flash videos. I don't know how I accidentally

Thanks for doing that. I just tested and it does seem like it will be

Thank you for thoughtful email. It's always nice to receive feedback
on what we're doing right and what we need to do better. It's nice to
see LaTeX and LyX being used more widely outside of math-based
disciplines. It really does have a lot of features that should not be
limited to publications with math.

LyX is a frontend to LaTeX. What that means is that LyX does the
formatting then hands it off to LaTeX. You are asking about installing
LaTeX files. That is not the job of LyX. It is the job of your LaTeX
package (TeX Live in Ubuntu) or of your package manager (apt in
Ubuntu). I don't see how LyX could make the process easier without
going far outside of its purview. Please let me know if you disagree
or if you have any further feedback on this. These are just my
opinions.

Now to your question. I suggest you google install LaTeX packages in
Ubuntu. Alternatively, you might be interested in a script that I
wrote:

With just a couple commands you can install everything you will ever
need for using LyX and LaTeX and all of the document classes in LyX
will become available.
If you want to use it, I recommend you remove your current TeX Live files:
sudo apt-get purge texlive-*

Then take a look at the options you might want:

Note that this will take a long time. I recommend you run it before
you go to bed. After it is done, restart your computer. Then in LyX go
to Tools  Reconfigure. Then restart LyX. Now the document classes
should all be available.

note, the way I got started developing in LyX was by reading very
carefully the documentation and sending in patches. I think it's a
great way to learn LyX well and to make a contribution.

I agree that it doesn't sound clear. I would make a new sentence for
the part you are referring to because it refers to the next example,
not the matrix example. Thus I would suggest replacing the sentence
with the following (I'm not sure what the smart delimiters are
actually called):
Smart delimiters also make it easier to see multiple layers of parentheses.
