RE: lyxwininstall 0.4 doesn't detect my M iktex settings
I forgot to precise that I used the small installer. I have checked the network one and it works fine. I plan to have miktex on the network for my colleagues anyway so I'll just use this one for now. Question: is it possible to add a kind of config file to the network installer that will specify the network path to Miktex? I know that the perfect solution is to try to teach them but I prefer the path of least resistance and a fully automated, network-base installation process would be perfect ;-) Thanks, Abdel. -Original Message- From: YOUNES Abdelrazak (M3SYSTEM) To: 'Uwe Stöhr '; 'lyx-users@lists.lyx.org ' Cc: YOUNES Abdelrazak (M3SYSTEM) Sent: 11/30/05 9:10 AM Subject: RE: lyxwininstall 0.4 doesn't detect my M iktex settings Hello, I have checked my configuration: Latex.exe is in D:\program\texmf\miktex\bin D:\program\texmf\miktex\bin is not in: HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment:Path But it is (once) in: HKey_Users\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1085031214-1580436667-839522115-4110\Envi ronment:Path I guess the reason is that I have installed Miktex for myself only and not for all users. They have completely different purposes - one is in no way a substitute for the other. The graphicx package lets you use images. It provides the latex commands for including images and take their sizes into account when typesetting. Without it - no images unless you use other packages with similiar functionality. Imagemagic is a set of conversion programs, that can convert images from one format to another. It is useful because latex only supports a few kinds of images. Any other kind of image won't work, they must be converted to somathing latex (or pdflatex) can use. Lyx knows this, and will automatically use imagemagic (or other converters) to convert images as necessary. Without imagemagic, you can only use the kinds of images that latex/pdflatex support directly. (Or images for which you have other converters.) I believe latex supports .eps, while pdflatex supports .pdf, .png, and .jpg. For any other cases, you need a converter that lyx can use. Try a .bmp for example - it will need conversion. Need help with multiple equations
Hi, i'm using lyx for my phd works in statistics, but i'm having some problems that i really don't know how to solve, and google-searching for two hours didn't help. What is the lyx corrispective ? And is math-display the lyx corrispective of \begin{equation*}. ? Mybe should i add something in the preamble? And how could i reference to the automatically numbered equations? 2) Also i would like to obtain what you see on pag 12 of the same pdf with equations 2.18 2.19 2.20. The problem is that i could'nt find any guide on using ams align, alignat, split, gather,... and so on with lyx. It is a good idea to have this in your Windows Path, if permissions permit. If you add an app, use LyX, Edit--Reconfigure and then check your LyX Path prefix afterwards. (You may have acrord32.exe which comes with Acrobat Reader rather than Acrobat pro.) I find installing GSview 4.7, can be helpful for printing. XnView which comes with Nconvert is mentioned with ImageMagick in contexts which include LyX, although I've not personally tried it. Perhaps another LyXer has. Regards, Stephen

help on oxford style bibliography or humanities-style in general
Hi everyone, I've just started using Lyx, but already it is such a huge relief compared to Word - thanks! Just to change the font on the screen without affecting the font in print... I saw that jurabib will have more native support in version 1.4, but I just wanted to ask if anyone is working with humanities-styles of their bibliographies in Lyx? - it could be jurabib or any other tex package that comply to the oxford style or equivalent, with the full reference as a footnote. If someone has a setup they are happy with (maybe proud of it as well? ;-)) I would be happy to hear how you do it. Thanks, Arne Kjell Vikhagen
[OT] PDF permissions
Oh LaTeX Gurus: I'm stumped about how to generate PDF files from LyX that readers can annotate. As far as I can tell, the problem is that several permissions (including annotation) are off by default when pdflatex emits its output. I've tried using pdftk and Multivalent to change those permissions, but apparently Acrobat Reader uses the more restrictive of the permissions on the source document and the permissions added/removed by the program (e.g., pdftk) generating the modified output. That makes sense; otherwise I could use it to undo restrictions set by an author. If I'm right, what I need is a way to generate an initial PDF file with all permissions set on. Hi again, Just solved it! Found Robin Turner's solution on the mailing list, but I couldn't make it work _because tex does not like percentage signs as a part of the preamble_... Had probably been put there by the web interface of MArc or something. How stupid can I be... Well, all happy now though - I enclosed a short example of a humanist-style reference type if there are anyone else wondering about this. In my preamble I have (just as in Robin Turner's case): \usepackage{babel} \usepackage[titleformat=italic,titleformat=commasep,commabeforerest,ibidem=strict,citefull=first,chicago,pages=format]{jurabib} \renewcommand{\cite}{\footcite} PS:Here's a tip to check for errors in the lyx file: export it to a .tex file, and hope your text editor have Latex code highlighting. I solved my problem by doing this, at least. Best, Arne Kjell Arne Kjell Vikhagen wrote: Hi everyone, I've just started using Lyx, but already it is such a huge relief compared to Word - thanks! The problem is that i could'nt find any guide on using ams align, alignat, split, gather,... and so on with lyx. From the pdf i mentioned it seems that they extend eqnarray, that is exactly what i need. I wrote a documentation LyXMathebefehle that covers all math specialities and how use them with LyX: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXMathebefehle#download unfortunately it is in german but perhaps you can understand the commands. You can also look at its pdf-version and to the corresponding parts in the LyX-file to find out how it is done. Yes, i alredy found your guide, but it's very hard for me to follow as i don't know a word in german :) So what i'm missing now is only the ability to replicate the result i saw on page 12 of the pdf on lyx (that is, working with aling and alignat). Next step will be learning split and multiline to deal with long formulas. It would be very kind of you if you could give me some suggestions to accomplish this diffucult (for me) task. Thank you a lot for your reply! Greetings Pelux
Re: Need help with multiple equations
http://www.dante.de/CTAN/info/math/voss/mathmode/Mathmode.pdf inside LyX choose _always_ the amsmath environments. Herbert I alway do that. The problem is that i have some difficulties using the aling, alignat, split, multiline amsmath environments in lyx. On the cited pdf i get some examples on how to use them in latex, but the lyx implementation is still obscure to me. For example, how to define the alignat spacing and to define alignment points? Thank you for your reply! Greetings Pelux
help on oxford style bibliography or humanities-style in general
I can't find anything in the hyperref manual about this, and Google (including Google Groups) has failed me. Any ideas? TIA, Paul
Re: help on oxford style bibliography or humanities-style in general [SOLVED]
-Original Message- From: YOUNES Abdelrazak (M3SYSTEM) To: 'Uwe Stöhr '; 'lyx-users@lists.lyx.org ' Cc: YOUNES Abdelrazak (M3SYSTEM) Sent: 11/30/05 9:10 AM Subject: RE: lyxwininstall 0.4 doesn't detect my M iktex settings Hello, I have checked my configuration: Latex.exe is in D:\program\texmf\miktex\bin "D:\program\texmf\miktex\bin" is not in: HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment:Path But it is (once) in: HKey_Users\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1085031214-1580436667-839522115-4110\Envi ronment:Path I guess the reason is that I have installed Miktex for myself only and not for all users.

And how could i reference to the automatically numbered equations? 2) Also i would like to obtain what you see on pag 12 of the same pdf with equations 2.18 2.19 2.20. The problem is that i could'nt find any guide on using ams align, alignat, split, gather,... and so on with lyx. Try http://www.xnview.com/ Your LyX Path Prefix (under Edit-->Preferences-->Paths) should look like C:\LyX\bin;C:\Python23;C:\texmf\miktex\bin;C:\Perl\bin; C:\gs8.51\gs8.51\bin;{C:\ImageMagick;} C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat7\Acrobat; C:\Program Files\Ghostgum\gsview But all in one line. It is a good idea to have this in your Windows Path, if permissions permit. If you add an app, use LyX, Edit-->Reconfigure and then check your LyX Path prefix afterwards.

Pelux wrote: 1) I would like to have all my equations (not the inline ones) to be automatically numbered, i prefer to the left. Is it possible? Automatic numberig isn't possible in LyX. You have to enter the formula and then change it to a numbered one using the shortcut "Alt-m n" (M-m n) or the menu Edit -> Math -> Toggle Numbering. To have all equation numbers on the left side, add the phrase "leqno" to the menu field Layout -> Document -> Layout -> Options . In general you need to enable AMS-math in the menu Layout -> Document -> Packages when you use AMS-constructs. From the pdf i mentioned it seems that they extend eqnarray, that is exactly what i need. http://www.dante.de/CTAN/info/math/voss/mathmode/Mathmode.pdf inside LyX choose _always_ the amsmath environments. Re: [LyX] translation of new Windows installer
Dear Uwe, > for Windows is now just one step. Further details are here: > > http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller I would mention on the web page what version of windows it is running. I am using Win98se, as far I know it does not run on win98, yet. I would like it marked, on the wiki. For avoid confusion... > Currently the installer is only partly translated to 7 languages. > Perhaps you have the time and will to translate some strings of it to > improve the installer. > You find the installer strings in this package: > http://download.berlios.de/lyxwininstall/LyXPackageScripts-0-4.rar So, I do it, but I have some problems since I have Win98 I could not install... Can I have the screenshots of the individual install pages? I am trying to guess the context of each string, but there is some confusion I could not solve. > thanks and sorry for bothering you > best regards > Uwe Stöhr No problem. Does every translators subscribed to the lyx-docs@lists.lyx.org list? We may perfer them to subscribe to it. -- Best regards, Alexmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

That's fine. Ok, so now i understand how it works. > >> And how could i reference to the automatically numbered equations? > >First add a label to a formula (vie Insert menu) and then use the menu >Insert -> Cross Reference. That's right. I was wondering how to reference in case automatic numbering was possible. But it is not, so the problem doesn't exist any more :) > >> 2) Also i would like to obtain what you see on pag 12 of the same pdf >> with equations 2.18 2.19 2.20. >> >> The problem is that i could'nt find any guide on using ams align, >> alignat, split, gather,... and so on with lyx.
