Thanks, that also solved the problem when I tried to compile

It was crashing for the lines 39-46.

One could also have a look at

https://www.lesfichesabebert.fr/TeX/TeX.html

It is website introducing Context in French.
The author was using LaTeX, but he switched to Context for
his work maintaining a regular publication.

Note: the site is now under reworking, but it is very
interesting.

[NTG-context] Installation of linux-32bits

2024-02-15 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

I tried to install the linux 32 bits kindly provided by Hans.

It went all right up to:

mtxrun -generate

First I had to change my PATH putting the path to lmtx
before TeXlive, because it was always the files from TeXlive
which were used.

Then I got:

alain@alain:~/context/tex/texmf-linux/bin$ mtxrun --generate
resolvers   | resolving | variable 'SELFAUTOLOC' set to
'/home/alain/context/bin'
resolvers   | resolving | variable 'SELFAUTODIR' set to

resolvers   | resolving | variable 'SELFAUTOPARENT' set
to '/home/alain'

resolvers   | resolving | variable 'TEXMFCNF' set to ''
resolvers   | resolving | variable 'TEXMF' set to ''
resolvers   | resolving | variable 'TEXOS' set to 'context'
[...]
resolvers   | resolving |
resolvers   | resolving | warning: no lua configuration
files found
resolvers   | resolving | no texmf paths are defined
(using TEXMF)

resolvers   | resolving |
mtxrun  |

so the binaries were not created.

What did I wrong? How to solve the problem?

Thanks,

Alain

Afaiks that script has been known fro a while:

I also thought I heard about it several years ago. The

The arabic alphabet was also used from the XIth century to

There are articles in Wikipedia.

I don’t dare to ask about the Husayni fonts... ;)

it should be doable. The script is supported by unicode.
I get the impression that the arabic scipt is mostly used
getting the way the languages sounds on paper so vowels
matter. There is mentioning of transliteration and so
that might need some specific support. Nothing tex

I downloaded the font in a big .zip file.
It contains: two explaining files and  folder with
sub-folder "Nupuram", which in turn contains 6 subsub-filders:

- otf with 32 otf font files
- otf-variable with 1 file "Nupuram-VF.otf"
- ttf with 32 ttf font files
- ttf-variable with 1 file "Nupuram-VF.ttf"
- ufo with 32 subfolders xxx.ufo
- webfonts with 33 xxx.woff2 files

After looking to contextgarden,I tried to put the "Nupuram"
sub-folder or only the folders with .otf in different places
of my context-lmtx folder, and using "mtxrun --script font
--reload".

But the example of Hans didn't work.

Then I install the .ttf font files in Windows\fonts; it
works, but 1) trying to install the Nupuram-VF.ttf, I have
the message that Nupuram-Regular is already installed; and
2) I get the font in the example, but no changes of width or
colour.

So, now I deleted all the Nupuram everywhere.
How could I have it fully working under context-lmtx?

I have different places for fonts in my context-lmtx:
- tex\texmf\fonts  mainly empty except \data
- texmf-context\fonts  populated
- texmf-fonts  empty
- texmf-modules\fonts  populated

Thanks for you help.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Regards

For me it looks alright, in particular if you have longer
text in the \item. The figures are aligned with the \item's.

One thing which changes is the space between de items:
between 2 and 3. I have no answer for that.

(same, but shorter: https://v34h.de/ctxmtg)

ConTeXt users of all levels are welcome!

Next meeting will be on November 9th.

(Same blurb as every time:)

[Howto]
* No special software installation required; most modern
browsers should work (WebRTC required).

* Open the above URL, accept the privacy statement,
* enter your name,
* click "join" (or "start" if you’re the first),
* click "with microphone", allow your browser to access
it, check the audio.
* Your microphone is muted if you join. Activate
microphone and/or camera with the buttons at the bottom.
* Minimize the default presentation with the "screen"
button, bottom right.

* If you’d like to share your screen or upload a file, you
can make yourself the presenter: Click on your user name,
change the setting, then you’ll see the "screen sharing"
button beside the camera button; also there’s now "manage
presentations" behind the "plus" button.
Beware there is only one presenter at a time, so don’t
kill someone else’s presentation.

[Technical hints]
* Sound is usually better if you use a headset (less noise
for everyone).

* Connection problems are mostly due to low bandwidth or
high latency on your side, e.g. with mobile connections.
* If audio/video doesn’t work for you, you can still use
the text chat.

* Screen sharing needs a lot of bandwidth.

* BigBlueButton documentation applies:
https://bigbluebutton.org/teachers/tutorials/

[Netiquette]
* Please use a name that we recognize from here. Some feel
uncomfortable with anonymous lurkers.

* Mute your microphone while you’re not talking.
* It’s nice to show your face at least when you join.
* If there are connection problems, stop camera sharing.
* The room is set to “everyone’s a moderator“, I trust you...

See you, Hraban

Hi Alain,

as Hraban points out, "mtxrun --generate" is your friend.

I can simply reproduce you error with:

   mtxrun --scripts cache --erase

So I get:

   $ context
   mtxrun | unknown script 'mtx-context.lua' or 'mtx-mtx-context.lua'

Everything works fine again after I run:

   mtxrun --generate.

Before the first run after installation, this command is mandatory to
build the database.

I hope it helps,

Pablo

Hi Pablo and Haram,

When I was running mtxrun --generate, there was an
interference with TeX Live, so I uninstalled it, then it
worked. I do not know if that time I did run mtxrun. But
under TeXworks when I selected context as program it kept
electing luametatex, and it didn't work; so I manually wrote
"context" and it worked!!

Thanks for your help,

Alain

When I run from TeXworks, I get only
one line:

Hello,
I do not understand what you did!
I went to "http://www.pragma-ade.com/install.htm"
downlaoded the 64 bit Microsoft Windows file
"context-win64.zip".
I did create a folder c:\data\context
wher I did put the .zip file and unzipped it.
I got

c:\data\context\bin
  c:\data\context\context-win64.zip
  c:\data\context\install.bat
  c:\data\context\installation.pdf
  c:\data\context\setpath.bat
Double-cliquing the install.bat it did
install all the structure; it took some time to fetch and unzip
texmf.zip and texmf-context.zip. After this doubleclic
setpath.bat ad everything was ok!
Hope this help.

Re: [NTG-context] Spellchecking for ConTeXt user on a Windows platform

2022-04-02 Thread Alain Delmotte via ntg-context

Hi Amine!
Do you mean spellchecking the content
of your document (not the ConTeXt commands)?
This depends on your editor!
I use TeXworks and there is spellchecking using the dictionaries
of LibreOffice. You should copy the .aff and .dicfiles from
"C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\share\extensions\..."
subdirectories to the "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\TUG\TeXworks\dictionaries"
folder (created when installing TeXworks), (I think not in
subfolders for the different languages).
You can then ask for spellchecking when you type or not.
I hope this help,
Alain

  Dear All,

I'm currently using ConTeXt on a windows machine. I'd like
to incorporate some sort of automated spell-checking in my
workflow. I've seen that there are two options:

spell check the .tex source file
spell check the resulting pdf

For the first option many resources online seem to
suggest using aspell. aspell is however not
maintained for windows and therefore hopelessly out of date.
Furthermore many resources online seem to suggest skipping
TeX and LaTeX control sequences does not always succeed. So
I can only imagine how poorly it deals with ConTeXt control
sequences.

The second option as shown on this StackExchange post suggests
using \loadspellchecklist. However, on of the
arguments to this command includes a text file listing - and
brace yourself - all of the correctly spelled words.
I find this both an amusing and tragic proposition, since I
basically need to spellcheck based on every word in a
  given language.

What options are out there for someone who would like to do
serious spellchecking using ConTeXt on Windows platform, using
  Powershell as my command line?

Regards,

Amine

Re: [NTG-context] Regular online meet-up

2022-02-06 Thread Alain Delmotte via ntg-context

Hi!
I'll try to join and I have a question
regarding inserting floats in outer margins in double sided
document. The outer margins are large and the inner small. I
want to insert my floats (mainly figures) in the outer margins
and have them at level where they are called. Furthermore,
sometimes the float is to large, so it should take part of the
text, with the text surrounding it.
But this is perhaps answered in
context garden, but I didn't find where.
And if there are more fundamental
questions, my can wait.
See you on Tuesday.
Regards,
Alain

ConTeXt users of all levels are welcome!

Hans offered to give a Q session again – please announce
subjects you’d like to discuss ASAP, so that he can prepare.

  Regarding the date:

Denis, who originally suggested Tuesday afternoon, can’t take part
due to other obligations. I could also offer Wednesday or
  Thursday.

We could also change the weekday every time, but that might be
confusing. I would keep the European afternoon time, since that
makes participation possible for people from America and Asia.

  What do you think?

  Vote here: https://nuudel.digitalcourage.de/tB1MHH4jx6M5uwPg

  (Same blurb as last time:)

  [Howto]

  * No special software installation required; most modern browsers
  should work (WebRTC required).

  * Open the above URL, accept the privacy statement,

  * enter your name,

  * click "join" (or "start" if you’re the first),

  * click "with microphone", allow your browser to access it, check
  the audio.

  * Your microphone is muted if you join. Activate microphone and/or
camera with the buttons at the bottom.

  * Minimize the default presentation with the "screen" button,
  bottom right.

  * If you’d like to share your screen or upload a file, you can
make yourself the presenter: Click on your user name, change the
setting, then you’ll see the "screen sharing" button beside the
camera button; also there’s now "manage presentations" behind the
"plus" button. Beware there is only one presenter, so don’t kill
  someone else’s presentation.

  [Technical hints]

  * Sound is usually better if you use a headset (less noise for
  everyone).

  * Connection problems are mostly due to low bandwidth or high
latency on your side, e.g. with mobile connections.

  * If audio/video doesn’t work for you, you can still use the text
  chat.

  * Screen sharing needs a lot of bandwidth.

  * You can also join with a regular telephone (audio only, of
course), call +49-6151-86275-22 (German landline); then you must
enter a PIN that changes every time – if you need it, ask me for
it via email. Mute/unmute your microphone with "0".

So it is better to ask braille specialist about the requirements

Re: [NTG-context] update lmtx

2021-11-25 Thread Alain Delmotte via ntg-context

Hi,
In the new upload for Windows 10/64
there is a new file "modules.bat".
When I did launch it it went through
all my harddisk and most of the time there was a line saying:
"File has vanished..." those were
about files outside the context-lmtx folder. (See the two
attached images)

I crashed the action.
How can I have the modules installed
in "C:\Users\Alain\context-lmtx\tex" and have the module use
working?
Thanks,

[NTG-context] To prepare the online meeting of Tuesday

2021-11-06 Thread Alain Delmotte via ntg-context

Hi,
I asked to discuss or have some
suggestions about installing and using Scite for ConTeXt.
If it is possible OK, but it is not
urgent.
To give some background:
I use Windows 10 and lmtx (in its own folder).
I installed Scite in c:\wscite and copied there the
scite\context folder; I added the folder to the PATH.
If I comment the line (import
context/scite-context-user) at the end of SciteGlobalproperties
I can load .lua, .tex, .py files and I get the colours
highlighting.

But if I uncomment: first I have Scite
opening full screen, which is annoying, and the colour
highlighting for .lua, and .tex disappears, but I have the
context/scite.xxx.properties listed in Options!!!
And I still need to configure to be
able to compile and...

Thanks for the advices.
Regards,
Alain
PS When I install lmtx, I have two
messages (but which disappear very quickly) about missing ??
with lua and lmtx (path?, ...)
How to be able to read the log of the installation? Thanks

Thanks Wolfgang, it works perfectly.

The

  was never
\def'ed.

Hi all,

not so short introduction to ConTeXt", I am done for part I, and
II, and I am starting with Part III...

I really appreciate Joaquín's Introduction, its structure, the
sequence of steps. Thanks again for that.

The latest french pdf can be found here :

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/contextgarden/not-so-short-introduction-to-context/main/fr/introCTX_fra.pdf

The GitHub directory is here :

https://github.com/contextgarden/not-so-short-introduction-to-context/tree/main/

  I added some content :

  - 6.7 :  how to use fonts from the operating system

  - 7.4.3.D :  tweaks with sectionconversionset

  - p.6 :  kind of "visual Table of Content"

  - 9.6 :  attachements

  I added some "features" :

  - use of ~10 environnement files for typesetting configuration

  - colors :   to provide a somewhat attractive document

inspired by Hans Hagen "Typographic Programming"

   https://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/style.pdf

  - commands to typeset Demos (showing code and results side by
  side)

  - some attachments to provide "ready to go .tex for beginners"

  Some thoughs:

  - to move "page break section" from Part I section 5.5

to something like Part III 11.x

  - Once the translation finished, to simplify some explanations.

  Garulfo

Thanks for the translation.
For now I went through 1/10 of the
document and I have comments. To whom should I send them?
Personally for a introductory manual I
would prefer the presentation of Joaquín with less colours and a
little bigger type. The notes would be better at the bottom of
the page, like in Joaquín document, because they are very long.
But the translation is really needed
for ease of use for French speakers. Thanks again.

I have seen that the \lowerleftdoubleninequote,... are sometimes
given by the character itself “ ”,...
For the date, is it the order of the part of the date yyy mm dd?

I did prepare the file lang-txt.lua and did send it to two
friends for checking, I wait for their answer (I hope not to

I also have the pattern for hyphenation, the one from TeXLive
uses fonctions to shorten the length of the file.
For French, I'll do it and send it to you.
Thanks for taking care of this.

Alain

[NTG-context] Using ConTeXt to create dictionnaries

2020-12-19 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

In 2009 I did participate to EuroTeX. This was the year when
TeXworks was presented.
One of the presentations was the use
of ConTeXt (mkiv?) to create a dictionary. I think for a
linguistic edition using a data base and ConTeXt to create the
final edition.

Is it possible to have some details and, if possible, some
contacts; a friend is interested in this system for the edition
of dictionaries (en Esperanto).

without remarking that I was only answering to you; I'll take
care inthe future.
I'll check if the two list are the
same, after expanding the condensed one. And after I'll go to

Yes, I'm aware of the differences, but ConTeXt is not ready to read
patterns in the cryptic format.
(If the two sets of patterns are not equivalent, there's something
that needs fixing.)

Please be proactive on the list (chatting offline with me won't help
that much) and just try to convince Hans to add those patterns, or ask
him what you need to do in order to end up with patterns supported in
ConTeXt out of the box.

Hi Mojca,

The pattern in TeXlive as I described (from hyph-eo.tex) makes the list a littlebit more compact: instead of

1a2do, 1a2doj, 1a2dojn, 1a2don one write \nom{1a2d}, otherwise it looks the same (I didn't check the details).

So I'll wait for the demand of Hans!!

The plain text version is already in the correct form:
https://github.com/hyphenation/tex-hyphen/blob/master/hyph-utf8/tex/generic/hyph-utf8/patterns/txt/hyph-eo.pat.txt
so it should be just a matter of Hans including the patterns in the
distribution.

Usually he asks for translations of basic strings (like "Chapter"
etc.) when adding support for a new language ;)

[NTG-context] Hyphenation pattern for Esperanto

2020-10-12 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

I'd like to have hyphenation for
Esperanto; it doesn't exist in ConTeXt but exist in TeX/LaTeX.
Looking to the files, the French
hyphenation files for LaTeX and ConTeXt looks very much the
same. But for Esperanto there is a difference at the beginning:

--
\begingroup
% Makrooj por la finaĵoj:
\def\adj#1{#1a. #1aj. #1ajn. #1an. #1e.}
\edef\nom#1{\adj{#1} #1o. #1oj. #1ojn. #1on.}
\def\ver#1{#1as. #1i. #1is. #1os. #1u. #1us.}
%
\patterns{
a1 e1 i1 o1 u1   % ebligu tranĉon post la vokaloj,
2aj. 2ajn. 2an. 2as. % krom se antaŭ finaĵo,
-
The comments are in Esperanto. The
definition \adj, \nom and \ver are for adjectives, names and
verbs and are used in the file as:

% AĈ
\nom{1a2ĉ}
% AD:
\nom{1a2d} \ver{1a2d}
.avok2a3d .bal2a3d ĉokol2a3d .fas2a3d .inv2a3d kamar2a3d
.kan2a3d limon2a3d
persv2a3d .pom2a3d seren2a3d
% AĴ:
\nom{1a2ĵ}
% ALT-

Would it be difficult to create the Esperanto file for ConTeXt?
Thanks for your help and for ConTeXt.

Alain Delmotte

[NTG-context] Running context-lmtx on Linux

2020-09-25 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!
I am coming back to ConTeXt after some
years; but lately I did find a funny introduction to ConTeXt in
French based on context-lmtx (http://www.lesfichesabebert.fr/).
I did install it for Windows-64, added
the reference to the context folders under TeXworks, re-difined
the Context command and everything went OK.
I did want to do the same on an old
portable computer running lubuntu 16.04 (it's a 32 bits machine
with small disk and RAM). I followed all the steps to install
it. But this didn't work neither in the console (I get the
message "Le programme « context » n'est pas encore installé.
Vous pouvez l'installer en tapant: sudo apt install context" -
but this, I suppose will install the context from the linux
distribution) , nor under TeXworks (message: "startup error: no
format file given, quitting".
Is there a solution? Or my system is
too old?
Thanks for your attention and for your
help.
Regards,
Alain

Background: at that point of time I couldn't figure out about project
structures. And I drew my flow charts in CorelDraw, hadn't taught
myself that, either. :-)

NB. This is a bit simplified example of how things went, the real
thing contains more directories and subdirectories, but those are not
important to explain my idea.

What I had is a directory structure like this

PR-23
  PR-23/swedish
  PR-23/portuguese
  PR-23/spanish
  PR-23/german

It all started with a single-language project, language subdirectories
got added over time when translations turned out to be of essence.
[PR-23 is the name of the product for which the document is written.]

To illustrate the system with graphics, let's say that the main
directory PR-23 contained a flowchart called flow_troubles.pdf and a
wiring picture wrg-366.pdf.
Wiring drawings are never translated, so every manual version uses the
same graphic.
On the other hand, the flow chart needs to be translated for every
language version. I did that by copying the English original (Corel
Draw graphic) into the language folder, then translating, saving and
exporting as pdf in that (sub)directory. The result is that both e.g.
the subdirectory swedish and the main directory PR-23 would contain a
graphic called flow_troubles.pdf, but the one in the subfolder would
be in Swedish.

Then, if I needed a Swedish manual, I needed to go into subfolder
Swedish and compile the main .tex file there. At the beginning of that
file I had the command \setupexternalfigures[directory=../]. When the
compilation came to wrg-366.pdf, the graphic could not be found in the
same directory, so ConTeXt went one step up as instructed and picked
up the wiring drawing there. Later when compilation would get as far
to flow_troubles.pdf, ConTeXt would look in the working directory
'swedish', find it there and pick up that one and *stop looking for
that graphic*. Ergo, because the Swedish one could be found first, the
existence of the English version in the search path is not a problem.

This way I didn't need to change the names of my graphics nor my code.
It was also handy when translations arrived in batches; I translated
the graphics one by one and could always compile a proper looking
document, first with all graphics in English, then some in the target
language, finally fully translated - and still, if a new version of
the wiring drawing turned up, I only had to update the master
directory and then remember to compile the translations to get the
changes in.

One more thing to remember is that I really do product manuals and
they are always in fluctuation - there's no final version of the
manual until the production of that particular model has ceased. Thus
years have taught me to avoid duplicate information to utmost, because
the more places to update because of a minor change, the more likely
it is to forget at least one of them. Been there, done that...
[When I switched to ConTeXt, each manual version was a separate MS
Word document. To update a wiring drawing, I had to open each version,
import the drawing to replace the old one, then save and close. And
hope for the best, switching figures in Word wasn't always that
straight forward, ConTeXt is definitely more predictable.]

Ok I did and it seemed to work, at least some files were updated.

But when I compiled I got the same versions' information in the log

The same version of ConTeXt or the same version of LuaTeX?

What do you get with
 luatex --version

The same versions for both context and luatex:
context 28782 20120630
luatex 26690 0.72.2-20120806

When I did update from TeX Live, 6 files were updated, but I
did take note, unfortunately.

By the way, I have two context.exe in TeX Live in:
c:\texlive\2012\bin\win32
c:\texlive\2012\texmf-dist\scripts\context\stubs\mswin

Testing form the command line, they are the same as noted above.

The one in the standalone are:
LuaTeX, Version beta-0.75.0-201301 (rev 4565)
ConTeXt ver: 2013.01.24 16:47 MKIV fmt: 2013.1.25 int:
english/english

?

By the way, for the stand alone version under TeXworks, the bin folder
information should go before those of TeX Live to avoid problems.

In TeXworks one needs to be careful about paths in either case. (But
then again, there's the same issue with basically any GUI program that
runs TeX. PATH usually needs to be set up separately from the shell.)

My paths are defined in Windows, but with TeXworks they also
appear in the definition window for the program.

I'll enquire to see if it is possible to suppress those.

[NTG-context] Coming back to ConTeXt

2013-01-25 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi,

I decided to give another try to ConTeXt.
I already did two years ago, I think, but I had problems
mostly because of the lack of documentation for MkIV.
Having a more or less strong knowledge and experience of
LaTeX doesn't help!!!

 This time:
I did not succeed to install a stand alone version. I have
also TeX Live and I need it for LaTeX.

I am using TeXworks (not the one from TeX Live).
I use ConTeX from TeX Live 2012:
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.70.2-2012080612 (TeX Live
2012/W32TeX)
ConTeXt ver: 2012.05.30 11:26 MKIV fmt: 2013.1.20 int:
english/english

Following the discussions on ntg-context, there often is
solution using one of hte latest version of ConTeXt, so I
have a first question: is it possible to update the TeX Live
ConTeXt and its associated files?

I also have questions about typography (hyphenation,
typographic rules,...) to have something according the
French rules, and others...

 Other questions in another message.

 Thanks for your help,

 Alain Delmotte

[NTG-context] Some questions

2013-01-25 Thread Alain Delmotte

 Hi,

Now some questions to solve the problems I have when I try
to follow the tutorial ConTeXt an excursion.
I think it is for mkII and I use mkIV and that there has
been many changes in between.

 - The example at the bottom of page 11 and page 12 gives
me an error:

! Argument of \head has an extra }.

system tex error on line 52 in file
travail.tex: Argument of ...

42 Hasselt lies in the province of Overijssel and there
are a number of customs that are typical of this province.

43 \startitemize
44 \head kraamschudden \hfill (child welcoming)
45 When a child is born the neighbours come to visit the
new parents. The women come to admire the baby and the men
come to judge the baby (if it is a boy) if he will become a
strong man.
46 The neighbours will bring a {\em krentenwegge} along.
A krentenwegge is a loaf of currant bread of about 1 \Meter\
long. Of course the birth is celebrated with {\em jenever}.

47 \head nabuurschap (naberschop) \hfill (neighbourship)
48 Smaller communities used to be very dependent on the
cooperation among the members for their well being. Members
of the {\em nabuurschap} helped each other in difficult
times during harvest times, funerals or any hardship that
fell upon the community.

49 \head Abraham \ Sarah \hfill (identical)
50 When people turn 50 in Hasselt it is said that they
see Abraham or Sarah. The custom is to give these people a
{\em speculaas} Abraham or a Sarah. Speculaas is a kind of
hard spiced biscuit.

51 \stopitemize
52

- The tables pages 30-31-32-35 are not at the right position
on the page, mostly they are to the right and not centered.

- The chemical formulae give an error (pages 37-38), but
I'll come back to that later on, but what is the manual
about it?

- The boxes on page 45, second example are not at the right
position, particularly the second is on the same line as the
first.

\midaligned
{\inframed[height=1.5cm,frame=off]{have a}}
\rightaligned

What are the up todate manuals for MkIV?

OK It's enough bothering you for the moment.

Thanks in advance,

Tell us more about the specific problems.

I did retry everything from the beginning and now it works.
One problem is that there is two bin folder and I was
first pointing to the wrong one; after that I didn't see the
context.exe and was trying to use mtxrun.

And of course I did add to the path.

So now it works from a standalone version. (up to date)

- You can add the latest version of ConTeXt to texmf-local or
$TEXMFHOME (usually $HOME/texmf, but may be set to a different place)
or to some other place. You can clone a git repository
(https://gitorious.org/context) there for example (just make sure that
you don't use one extra directory).
- Apart from that you need to make sure that mtxrun will be taken from
the latest ConTeXt. There are different options to achieve that. (Add
$HOME/bin to PATH and put a symlink or copy of mtxrun there, or any
other option that comes to your mind.)

I did not try all example, but this seems to work here. Can you

In another example before, the locations for floats was

except the last which had a location=left.

Hans and Alan are in the process of completely re-writing the
chemical macros. I don't know the current state.

OK I'll wait

In MkIV there's a new syntax you can use:

\startlinealignment [left]
   \inframed[width=fit]{People in Hasselt}
\stoplinealignment

\startlinealignment [middle]
   \inframed[height=1.5cm,frame=on]{have a}
\stoplinealignment

\startlinealignment [right]
   \inframed[background=screen]{historic background}
\stoplinealignment

I did not investigate why the middle alignment is on the same line
as the left alignment and if that's intended or not.

OK, it works, but I do not get the result of the book, I'll
investigate.

What are the up todate manuals for MkIV?

I'm afraid there are none (and probably never will be). The wiki
improved an awful lot during the last months, especially the command
reference. There's also the revised manual, tex.stackexchange and of
course the mailing list.

Waiting the book announced by Alan, I'll try to use the wiki
and existing modified books.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Alain

You did not make yourself clear what exactly you want and where to
add the space. Here you find an (incomplete) overview of the page
layout dimensions:

I think what he mean is to have a size a little bit bigger
than the required format, so one is sure that the page will
be full.

Example, if you want an image to occupy the top of your page
from one border of the paper to the other and touching the
top edge, it is usual for a printer (the man not the
machine) to have the image protruding left, top and right,
so when one cut the paper one is sure that the image will
not leave a tiny white space on one of the side.

Re: [NTG-context] Grammar

2010-07-28 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

Henning Hraban Ramm a écrit :
So, as several other posters already said: It's not the words who are to
blame, but the speakers and their mind sets...

Let me just add a comment about he/she and the willing of
the speakers.

In Esperanto, there is
li = he
ŝi = she (same pronunciation)
ĝi = it (pronounce ĝ like j in just : dj)

The neutral is used when you do not specify the gender (like
speaking about a cat without specifying male or female) or
when there is no gender (for an object).
But Zamenhof, the initiator of Esperanto, said you also use
it for young humans, like babies.

So it is a real neutral form.

But people want to keep their own use (the use from their
language) and only keep ĝi for objects.
(even if, for example in English, one uses she when
speaking about ones boat!!)

Some other want to have ŝli as neutral.
Other again want to suppress li and ŝi and only have ri.

There is no solution to the problem; any solution will find
people not agreeing for one or another reason.

But one has to try to avoid discrimination.

When did you last update the minimals? LuaTeX beta-0.50.0 should not
be there any more.

Well! I installed it Thursday 01/04 for the first time (but I confess: I
didn't update since!!)

But I think Taco gave the answer, I'll wait.

Hi!

Taco The availability of ConTeXt books will not automatically create
Taco more users (nor even automatically create readers, for that
Taco matter).

Hmm, interesting...

If even you think that ConTeXt books are not important (to bring new
users), then no wonder we do not have even a single one...

I think Taco didn't say *at all* that books are not important; he just said
that the books will not automatically increase the use.

03/04 14:13

However, it might be that ConTeXt prefer to always stay niche-product
and to, as Haskellers say: Avoid success at all costs.” :-)

Do you know many software in development for which there are plenty of
books.

Further the accusation of somes other that Hans is keeping information
for his work and not documenting it is shocking me.
Hans said that he did develop ConTeXt for *his* work and then opened it
to others to benefit.
And Hans is working for the ConTeXt users free and would prefer, I
think, to use his secret!!? tools and go on for his real work.

I also regret that the documentation is not complete and updated for
mkiv, but mkiv is still in development even if it is operational (but
Hans suggest to use mkii for professional work).

Many people here who complain about documentation, also quickly say that
they do not have time to write the asked for book: they have other
things on the fire!! just... like Hans who is developing ConTeXt and do
not have time writing documentation.
What is more important: having a very good program and wait for its
documentation, or a very good documentation and a buggy program???

Thanks to those who develop ConTeXt and answer the questions.

Have a good Eastern time

Thank you, Luigi.
This code gives a nice result with the page sitting neatly centered on
the paper.

However, when I increase the margin width to 25mm all gets shifted to
the left. Both margins get 25 width, the right margin stays within the
boundaries of the A4 paper, the left one is pushed outside. One would
have expected that with width=fit, the increase of marginwidth would
go at the expense of textwidth and that location=middle will still
dictate the overall position.
But no, it does not work that way apparently. Setting margin=20mm is
about the limit. Even setting textwidth to a small size, for example
10 cm, does not work to keep the page inside the paper. The extra
white space all shows up at the right side as an enormously wide
rightedge while the left margin is still partly outside the paper. In
other words: location=middle does not work.
Strange indeed.

Is there anything that could be done about this?
And would it be possible to different margin width for the right and
left margin?

When I tested some of the page layout possibilities I did read in * that
the margin and the text are *not* at the same level, so the margins can
be *under* the text.
This also means that changing the margin will not affect the text width,
and so on.

[NTG-context] Different behaviour

2010-03-21 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

I did find a different behaviour for the same command.
In:
1] \starttext

2] \defineenumeration

3] [remark]

4] [way=bysection,location=top,

5] text=Remark,

6] inbetween=\blank,

7] after=\blank]

8] \remark In the early medieval times Hasselt was a place of
pilgrimage. %point 1

9] \subremark Nowadays the {\em Heilige Stede} is closed again. %point 2

10] \subremark Nowadays the {\em Heilige Stede} is closed again. %point 3

11]
12] Remarquer la possibilité d'avoir des sous-numéros.

13]
14] \remark In the early medieval times Hasselt was a place of
pilgrimage. %point 4

15]
16] \subremark Nowadays the {\em Heilige Stede} is closed again. %point 5

17]
18] Aussi les \type{\startremark...\stopremark}.

19]
20] \remark In the early medieval times Hasselt was a place of
pilgrimage. %point 6

21]
22] \subremark Nowadays the {\em Heilige Stede} is closed again. %point 7

23]
24] \subremark Nowadays the {\em Heilige Stede} is closed again. %point 8

25]
26] \stoptext

This works (no empry line before points 1, 2, 3; empty lines before the
others)
If I suppress the line before any of the points 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 I get an
error Runaway argument for the line of point 8!

Suppressing *after* point 3 or point 5 also gives an error.

In fact, it looks like there should be an empty line after the \remark
or \subremark, but not for the first group!

(NB. I did add the line number to avoid misunderstanding going from a
Windows CRLF to other CR or LF)

[NTG-context] Table of contents

2010-03-21 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

I have two question about table of contents.

1) is it possible to have the toc at the end of the document.
I tried to place \placecontent or \completecontent at the end and it
didn't work; I only managed to have the toc at the beginning of the
document.

2) If I define my own header (like in ConTeXt an excursion: 5. Headers)
and so, for example, replacing \section by \myheader, which has a
section level, the table of content is empty!

If the information is in another document, please give me a pointer, thanks!

[NTG-context] Stack overflow

When I want to compile the file on which I am working, I get:

So, I am stuck.

What is the solution?
