Re: K-1 Enablement
There is a difference between wanting a new camera and needing one. If I bought a new camera only when I needed one, I'd probably still be shooting with the K10D. If we all did that, Pentax - and most every other manufacturer other than Canon & Nikon - would be out of business by now. The hard drives were massive, and I have no idea how much data it stored. It wasn't much. We had 2 Gretag 3140 printers. We talked to them via a teletype, the program was on about a hundred feet of paper tape, and I believe the old machine was 8K of memory, the newer machine was 16K of memory, but I could be wrong, they might both have been 16k. The computer had a row of switches across the front that had to be set in the correct sequence for the machine to boot. Glad to hear about the weight - it was one concern that I had, seems like a lot to lug around while traveling etc. For a general purpose zoom in situations where I don't want to carry a second lens I prefer the extra reach that the 28-105 gives. Although, I can't help but wonder if you'd be able to do more with your macros using the new K-p, the sample photos I saw showed it giving the K-1 a run for its money in high ISO, and it does have a smaller pixel pitch (24 vs 18 MP in APS). For just about everything else, except maybe long telephoto work, I expect the K-1 is still a much nicer camera though. I gave some thought to the K-3ii and K-P since either would also have pixel shift. APS-C has some advantages for macro work in that the image does not have to be magnified as much to fill the frame. But ultimately the K-1 seemed to be the way to go. The only drawback to the K-1 that I see is that it might trigger an LBA relapse. Bill, what macro lens do you use? I was happy with my 90/2.5 Vivitar for many years, but I think it was stolen by a painter who worked here last year. I need a new macro. Re: K-1 Enablement
Mark, good choice. I got mine with the 28-105 a week ago and am still very much in the learning curve. I was a bit worried about the size and weight of the K-1 when walking around, but so far this is acceptable. Now I'm trying my old prime lenses, but the 28-205 is also fine. Henk Op 2017-02-22 om 21:59 schreef Mark C: I finally bit the bullet and put in an order for a K-1 today. I went with the 28-105 lens since the 24-70 overlaps so much with the Tamron 28-75 that I already have. I'm looking forward to seeing how the K-1 performs with some old film era lenses - the FA 50 f1.7, F28 f2.8, A* 200 macro, Sigma EX 70-200 f2.8 (1st generation) and FA 20-30 f4 zoom in particular. I'm hoping that the first generation SIgma lens does not have the mounting issue that the current version has (I found one comment on Pentax Forums that said it did not, but you never know). I'm not all that optimistic about the FA 20-35 but we'll see. I've been doing some more stacked macros in the past couple weeks and the tought that I could be doing these with a much more capable camera than my K3 just got to be over bearing... Awesome Mark. I only beat you by a few days. I love it so far. The flexibility and configurability is overwhelming. I've never had aperture-bracketing before (unless I never read my previous manuals thoroughly!), which sounds interesting. The AF and image quality so far exceeds my expectations. I can't wait to take it on a good walk or a trip. You'll be happy with it. On Wed, Feb 22, 2017 at 2:59 PM, Mark Cwrote: > I finally bit the bullet and put in an order for a K-1 today. Re: K-1 Enablement
I find that in comparison to the K-3, which is an excellent camera, the K-1 has better high ISO performance, better autofocus, particularly in low light, and all those extra pixels to play with when I want to crop a horizontal as a vertical. My only complaint is in regard to the overly tight clustering of the autofocus points. Re: K-1 Enablement
Congratulations. I love that camera. I think Len has been using his with the A* 200 macro. I use the K 85/1'8 now and then and the A 50/1.2. It's quite easy to focus manually, with the in-foxes light being quite accurate. I use the D FA lenses for the most part: the 24-70/2.8, the 15-30/2.8 and the 150-450/ 4-5.6. I also use the DA* 60-250/4 quite often. It vignettes just a bit, and I shoot in crop mode if I'm in a situation where I don't want to deal with that. You're going to *love* the K-1. Great control layout and user interface combined with stunning image quality. I use mine primarily with the FA 20/2.8, the 31/1.8 Ltd and the 77/1.8 Ltd. I also use the FA*28-70/2.8 and 80-200/2.8 from time to time. -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
