Actually Ann and Jay, I sort o liked that lighter cap at the top, but
primarily, it was the curved upper sections of the reeds that appealed to me.

I agree with Jay - like it quite a bit cropped down so the shore in the
background is out... as it happens, that is how it came up on my screen
first.. I had to
make the image smaller to see what Jay was talking about - my monitor
had done the crop for me ;-)

Re: Peso-Blue Heron

2017-05-01 Thread ann sanfedele
the size across browser shouldn't change... but if you had intentionally
or accidentaly done a resize once when in one of them, you might not
realize that..

(speaking from experience)

I look at all the pesos in firefox, because when I click on a link in
thunderbird it opens up in firefox because thundnerbird is mozillas
email system.

Whenever anyone in photo.net posts I have to shrink the images to see
them by quite a bit, likewise with yours... If I don't change the view
to less than 100% I can't see the whole image.

no reason to change what you are doing at all

Thank you Ann and yeah it would have been nice if all that wasn't there
but that at the time was the best view of him. After awhile I did walk
on around as I knew there was a little trail that would take me to the
side of the creek. There was a small limb laying across the trail so as
soon as stepped over it I stepped on a stick and it made a cracking
sound. Well the Heron heard me and looked my direction and flew off.

Yesterday I looked again at the location. It turns out there are a
bunch of dead trees poking up in the middle of this pond (created by
beavers). Those dead trees have no foliage or small branches on them.
The pattern of their bark is what you are seeing in the reflection.
For me, knowing it is bark reflection I am seeing, makes it feel a
little better. In any event, when the subject is surrounded by water,
you get whatever reflects in the water for the background.

Sorry to make you ill grin.

Bruce;

Great pose and composition. The light may be a bit harsh for my taste,
but what really stands out is the OOF branches or whatever It gives
me a headache and makes me ill... :-) Not the prettiest bokeh I've
seen. :-)

I don't think it is bokeh, I believe it is reflection background - you
would probably see much more of if it were bokeh - as taken, it is
very discreet like portions of reflections of tree trunks or ripples
or some such.

I'm guessing by you not correcting my identification, that it is a
Blue Heron...if not, could you please identify?

Very nice, Bruce; but those birds sure look a lot
better when they're flying!
