I don't think so, Sam said (s)he has no problems connecting with GAIM, but
it could be.

 maybe you should make sure you have 40- contacts if your connection is that
 bad...

I have 56 contacts (no extra users on allow/block lists), and it works
perfectly at even 1KB/sec. I don't know how it would behave with many more
contacts and 4KB/sec, but it doesn't seem to be the only problem.

Why, I have a modem connection at home :) I can assure you that aMSN has

1KB/sec left for aMSN!) So maybe the problem is not on the slow connection

2005-12-01 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi again,

Saw your fix on the CVS, but unfortunately it still has problems - crashes
as soon as I open a second tab. Don't know what the connection with the
traydock changes might be. :

I *have* gotten two tabs to open though. It is more likely to behave
normally if I have another skin (Alloque_Lavender seems better, MSN7 seems
worse, but I haven't searched them one-by-one), if I am appearing offline,
or if I wait before opening a second chatwindow. Opening two chatwindows
too quickly brings a sure crash. Also, once I have gotten two tabs to
open, I can open as many more as I like, it's stable.

Sorry for the bad news, and I hope it hasn't gotten too confusing...

Located it! : [Amsn-devel] X_GetImage crashes

2005-12-02 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

 #8  0x40058755 in TkpDisplayButton () from /usr/lib/libtk8.4.so

It is actually the send button. I enabled the standard grey flat button
in chatwindow.tcl and increased the -width argument (but I mean REALLY
increase it, had to set it to 60) and it is stable! I just get a funny
huge button that turns normal again when I hover it :) but at least, no
crashes.

I will keep experimenting, but since I am hacking an unknown code in an
unknown language, I'd appreciate it if someone else gave it a try :)

 I think it's perfect, a lot better since the user won't have any annoyin
 popup... I suggest we go with that..

Another suggestion: do the same for changing languages? Currently, after
you select the new language, a popup says that you have to restart aMSN,
so maybe write this one too inside the window?

 Hmm...So you say that when you use the GREY FLAT button you don't crash?
 That's the ONLY thing you change?

No, I also have to set its width to like 60 or something (yes it IS
huge)...

The code below doesn't work either :(

 Try that:
 label $sendbutton -image  [::skin::loadPixmap
 butfont]\
 -fg black -bg [::skin::getKey sendbuttonbg]
 -bd 0 -relief flat \
 -activebackground [::skin::getKey
 sendbuttonbg] -activeforeground
 black -text [trans send] \
   -font sboldf -highlightthickness 0 -pady 0
 -padx 0 -relief flat -compound center
   bind $sendbutton Button1 ::amsn::MessageSend $w
 $text
 This is VERY VERY VERY similar to a normal button in the chatwindow, same
 picture, same command(label), don't tell me it crashed or I won't beleive you.

Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.95 release

2005-12-12 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

 1 - change the reflector connection timeout to a more appropriate value, 2secs
 or 5secs.. AND make sure it doesn't make amsn freeze.. if it does, a 2sec
 freeze is not that bad... needs to be tested..
 lines to change : search for '-timeout' in msncam.tcl

I remember that it doesn't freeze, in fact it works fine with 5 secs. But
I am at the lab right now so I have nobody to test it with.

I have no problem translating and sending each time, it's a matter of 5
minutes for me. The problem is on the translation managers' side - with
each change, they get many new languages to check and upload.

It may not be very important for 0.95, but my point is: for the languages
that we can have ready for 0.95 (at least on my side, this is the case),
it would be better to not send little changes all of the time, instead
send one file at the end with all changes inside. So, shall I complete and
send the file now, or is it still possible that more keys will be added?

2005-12-12 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

 did you try being offline ? you need to be sure that it will timeout and
 it will USE all those 5 seconds... if you were online, you would get it
 to unfreeze in less than a second, once it's able to connect to the
 reflector... maybe not offline also... maybe offline will make it return
 immediatly with an error... humm... ok, try changing the URL of the
 reflector to another URL where you know it will take more than 5secs to
 complete (maybe a download page or the wiki page which is slow)

OK, just tried with the wiki page and 5 secs, it doesn't freeze. :)

[Amsn-devel] dll's required for TkCximage

2005-12-18 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hello,

I know this is not amsn's problem but maybe we should take care of it for
the release?

A friend of mine told me that he got the latest CVS with Windows and it
couldn't load TkCximage. It turned out (manually loading the dll from
wish.exe -thanx Youness- and strings TkCximage.dll |grep dll) that
msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll weren't in the library path (various folders
but all inside other applications' folders). By copying these files in the
same folder as wish.exe it worked... Googling for this didn't seem to
return any relevant results.

I don't know - yes we are open-source but even openoffice ships these 2
dll's at install...

throw a tk bug, but it didn't :

check the error message though)

[Amsn-devel] error updating plugins?

2005-12-20 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

[11:40:02] Error while updating TeXIM : main 1, lang 1, file 0
[11:40:03] Error while updating music : main 1, lang 1, file 0
[11:40:03] Error while updating sayit : main 0, lang 1, file 1

I have them in ~/.amsn/plugins . It downloads everything, all files, and
when it's finished downloading it gives this error. This has been
happening for quite a long time, and I thought I had messed up the
permissions, but after all it seems that something else is wrong. How can
I find out why it can't update them??

[Amsn-devel] Re: error updating plugins?

2005-12-20 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

I don't quite know what happened, I was trying to investigate it, and just
made plugins.tcl write some stuff to the syslog. Then it suddenly updated
the plugins! I put back the original plugins.tcl, downdated music just to
test and guess what? It updated again!

Well, if it just fixed itself, nothing we can do I guess...

I had noticed, yes... and I appreciate it, really :) First, if there's a
problem with you, I can be sure I'll know exactly what the problem is :)
and second, I can be sure you'll have no problem after some time!

And, well, it's true that I tried to be much kinder than usually :D

Now Youness is taking a whistle and is playing the referee:
(and I'm not writing anything else below, don't scroll)

 About Jerome, I have no idea what Phil is talking about, no idea what happened
 between Jerome and his gf but all I have to say is :
 1 - Phil : don't flame someone on the list, it's immoral and shows how much of
 a lowlife you are :P
 2 - Jerome : don't pay attention to him, knowing him and seeing the way he
 said everything, I'm sure everyone thinks he's talking non-sense, so we don't
 care about what he says...
 3 - Jerome : whatever he said, true or not, don't worry, we all had difficult
 experiences with the opposite sex...
 4 - Jerome : I know you're not desperate or anything, I know you're just
 joking and I've done some worse jokes, trust me, once Vivia and you cleared
 that thing out, it's finished, it's in the past...
 5 - Jerome : PM me with details about that story ^o) (6) lol
 6 - Jerome : are we ready to release ?

Yes, there is an option for changing it in preferences, so it's better
that you didn't change it. The problem is: select /MM/DD and it
appears 2022/12/20 . it's good to be ahead of your time sometimes but
that's just too much :D

Just checked with older CVS, we are in year 0505 ... wow, I didn't know
they had MSN by then! (So it's not a problem just introduced)

 I think it was defined this way and we already discussed this, so I think it
 should be kept that way, anyways, I think in the advanced prefs, there is a
 date format entry... If I changed the format from that place, I should have
 also changed the format used when loading the date into a long integer...

[Amsn-devel] Priority marking? (WAS: OT: Re: AI and human intelligence (WAS: [...]))

2005-12-23 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

On Fri, 23 Dec 2005, Sander Hoentjen wrote:

 My mail client (Evolution) doesn't handle priority marking. I could have
 marked the subject but refused since no one else did it :P

Pine doesn't handle it either, I had to add X-Priority to Customized
Headers. I thought I could go with it if it's just me, but if more people
have this problem, we'll have to settle with another solution.

My suggestion: just mark the subject OT.

Same goes for when you just start talking about something else, even
aMSN-related. For example, now the email was talking about both AI and
email priorities, and we could end up with two threads with the same
subject. So, if you think you are not anymore referring to what the
subject suggests, change it. Yes, Sander, I know nobody else marks it
until now, but I can't see any reasons for not doing it if you include the
WAS: - so someone has to start!

Something else, PLEASE, when replying, remove all irrelevant stuff -
especially others' signatures and email sponsored by, but also
irrelevant phrases from the original emails, if this applies... :)

Merry Christmas :)

Sorry if I am not doing anything, I never have enough planned time online
(maybe it turns out every now and then that I can stay a couple of hours,
but I never know this in advance when I connect)... but - great work
everyone else! :)

  also, we have problems with the screenshots page.. IE doesn't accept
  max-width option... I just found a workaround for it! but clicking on
  any screenshot link results in IE crashing.. what is the syntax error in
  that script ?
 I will try to see. Just need a ssh client for Windaube.

Now this is a thing I could do, if I find more time today... this is not a

[Amsn-devel] MSNP11 problem

2005-12-28 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

First of all, GREAT WORK again, thanx ;) Now the problem:

I tested mutually deleting and readding with the amsn-screenshots account
(MSNP9 on screenshots). Then logged of from both accounts and then back on
mine - the first time it thought amsn-screenshots hadn't added me,
connecting back with MSNP9 (profile disabled) solved it. Repeated the
procedure, this time I got the message this user has added you, do you
want to bla bla (I had already pressed OK on this one before).

Sander said he forgot a refresh or something, but has to go now and will
be back tomorrow night. If nobody else fixes it until then, he will.

Greetings!

Hi,

Thanx for asking to try to make a package!!! :) If everyone agrees, I have

I had tried with make rpm and it didn't seem to work. So try again, and
if it doesn't work on you either, you can try with this:

Hope it helps!

Without it, file selection won't work. But I don't like what I did, even
though I don't really understand it...

 better as we may not know if a diff should be applied on cvs version or on the
 version Karel sent... but in that case, sending the whole file, could you
 please attach a diff with it at the same time as the complete file?
 one huge reason for me is that all I need to do is look at the diff, without
 it, I would need to put the file on my machine, connect through FTP to my
 linux box, upload it there, do the same with Karel's version, then diff.. OR
 save/ftp/upload then open vnc, open amsn through vnc, load the plugin, realize
 I can't load the plugin because I have no kde and no gnome installed, then do
 the diff :P
 This comment also applies to Karel, not just Vivia!

 anyways, I'm too lazy to use diff, so I don't know what you changed, but I
 have a question that was always killing me, when I was cleaning that code :
 proc question_event { fileId } {
   if [catch {close $fileId}] {
   set ::desktop_integration::answer no
   } else {
   set ::desktop_integration::answer yes
   }
 }

 why would a close fail on the fileId ?? is it because the fileId is never
 opened ? because there was never any output on stdout.. but I don't think so
 because once you have an FD, then the FD is valid... so I just don't get why a
 failing close would mean 'no'... and a successful one means 'yes'..
 I can't test because I have no zenity, no k..whatever that is...
 but an explanation would be nice..

 Karel, your solution, to detect when you have a first load is :
 proc init { }
 registerplugin
 set config(first_time) 1

 .. do all the stuff here ...

 if {[info exists ::{Desktop Integration_cfg}(first_time)]
 [set ::{Desktop Integration_cfg}(first_time)] == 0 } {
 checks_when_loaded
 }

 set config(first_time) 0

 }

 hope that helps you... (in no code, it means that your configuration is inside
 a proc named ::${plugin_name}_cfg make sure it's the plugin's name, not it's
 namespace, so if you have a space in your plugin name, make sure to put
 brackets around it)

 It had code that wasn't used yet ... now on first load, well, now still
 on every load of the plugin, it changes your settings (a lot more
 settings are changed for gnome then 2 days ago ;))

What settings? And how about KDE? :D

[Amsn-devel] MSNP11 patch

2006-01-03 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Seems to work now. Please test by mutually deleting and readding contacts
(also from AL/BL). (You can play with the screenshots account, like I did)

It is 99% the patch that Phil sent me, but Phil I found the mistake:

line 3014: after 1000 ::MSN::WriteSB ns \ADC\ \RL N=$username\;
::MSN::WriteSB ns \REM\ \PL $username\;

You had after 0, but it was not enough, when GotADCResponse was called
the contact had already been removed from PL, and so we got another dialog
from line 987:

if { $curr_list == RL  [lsearch [::abook::getLists
$username] PL] == -1 } {
newcontact $username $nickname
}

OK, maybe 1sec is too much but I don't feel like playing with it atm - if
someone else can do this, please... :)

So... if this really does work... is MSNP11 finished? :)*** gui.tcl 2006-01-04 02:53:18.0 +0200

Re: [Amsn-devel] MSNP11 patch

2006-01-04 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

 I don't know why you did that !!
 The after 0 is only to execute it at the end of the current proc and having
 some blocking troubles... Anyway, except that I want all you test it because
 I am not sure of what I did !!

Simple: You send the ADC and *right after* this the REM.

Server responds to the ADC and so aMSN executes GotADCResponse. In the
proc there is this:

if { $curr_list == RL  [lsearch [::abook::getLists
$username] PL] == -1 } {
newcontact $username $nickname
}

When we get to this line, the contact has already been removed from the PL
so the newcontact is called again. Yes, I double-checked this, these lines
are indeed called. This is why I added the delay.

But I think that the delay is no good solution either. It should be maybe
best to wait for the ADC Response and then REM the contact :

if { $curr_list == RL  [lsearch [::abook::getLists
$username] PL] == -1 } {
newcontact $username $nickname
}
(MY SUGGESTION)
elseif (curr_list == RL and person in PL but also in AL or
BL) {
REM the person from the PL
}

Well, not really my suggestion, I discussed with Sander and Youness on
IRC. What do you think?

 congratulations. it works almost perfectly (my webcam... i think isn't

 see, i think we could have an option to put the webcam always in front
 of the other windows, kind of always visible, so we can work with
 other stuff, chat, and see our buddy at the same time :D

You can most probably do this from your window manager:
http://amsn.recordingground.com/viewtopic.php?t=230

 my webcam is a best buy easy point and click. when i try to configure
 it, all ports and connections are ok, but when i select device it says
 error : no video source initialized.

Which driver are you using? Does your camera work with other applications
(such as xawtv) ?

[Amsn-devel] MSNP11 todo ...

2006-01-05 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

... yeah, it seems to work perfectly for no group, BUT... (ok, most seem
GUI issues)

1) When creating a group, the GUID shows instead of the group's name until
   you restart aMSN. When you create two groups during the same aMSN
   session, only the second GUID will show, until you restart aMSN :D

2) Moving a contact from a group to the same group ends up with the
   contact deleted !!!

3) Phil's patch (about moving a contact from no group to another group)
   should also be applied to when adding a contact directly to a group,
   because all we do is to add to no group and then move to the correct
   group.

4) Renaming a group won't refresh its name on the GUI.

5) Trying to delete an empty group results to the following bug. Ignoring
   the bug and trying to delete another group at the same session gives no
   error, but they only show deleted after restarting aMSN. Bug is:

 Hola!!

 completo.

 Gracias!!!

[Amsn-devel] CxImage + animated smileys

2006-01-06 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi,

I don't know who broke it (maybe Youness?) but when I'm trying to steal an
animated smiley, it thinks it's not animated so it asks me to resize it -
and of course I lose the animation whether I press Yes or No. Tracing it,
I found that ::CxImage::IsAnimated $file always seems to return 0.

Plz fix... :)

Re: [Amsn-devel] [Fwd: Congrats and Questions]

2006-01-07 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi,

Are you sure your jpg's are not located in a folder with special
characters (accented etc) inside, or have no special characters
themselves? A bug like this was just corrected on the CVS version.

 Hi everybody there. I'd like to star saying thanks for release this new
 version of aMSN.
 Let's go with the inconvenient: since the past version 0.94, I'm
 experiencing trouble trying to add images to show to others. At the V.
 0.94 use to ask for the ImageReady or something like that. Now... do not
 ask for the same thing, but do not let me add .jpg's. Only accepts .png's?
 I'm using a W-XP.
 Thank you very muchand happy new year...

[Amsn-devel] FAQ: X_OpenFont

2006-01-09 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Since last night, two people came to IRC to report that aMSN crashes on
logon with one X_OpenFont message. After having them set the system
encoding to utf-8 and try a couple of different fonts, the problem wasn't
solved. Turned out today on one of them that... he didn't have any locales
installed... /usr/lib/locale/his_locale not existing! (Wonder how other
applications work OK though).

We can do nothing about them having a broken distro, but I'm seriously
thinking about adding this to the FAQ... :D If nobody has any objections
and nobody else wants to do it (:D) I will add it tonight.

By hand when you edit, inside the text? No I didn't :$ Anyway, just

when I will add the /etc/localtime question.

[Amsn-devel] Quick answer needed: Desktop Integration

2006-01-10 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hello,

I just realized that the file that we offer for download for Desktop
Integration is the wrong one, where the file selector won't work. I tried
to enable auto-update, added the cvs_version like, but do I also have to
increment the plugin_version in order to trigger the update? Does anyone
know?

We also have to update the .zip on sourceforge and change the link on the
page, but I don't know how to update the .zip , anyone with instructions?
:)

 Eventually you could enable P12 in cvs and still release 0.95 without it
 even if it is declared stable enough ...

Current CVS is actually using P12... it's a diff of 3 or 4 lines from P11

[Amsn-devel] Reflector + grabber error + lost status logs

2006-01-12 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi everyone,

I tried webcam + reflector with Arieh and it was acting weird. He was the
one sending webcam. At the beginning we tried to make it go through the
reflector, it connected OK, but on his side it was giving a grabber error
on the status log as soon as it said connected to reflector. Then the
connection got closed. He pasted his status log to me on the chat but we
both managed to lose it :( On my side, I got this:

[14:35:15] Received Data on Reflector socket sock9 190 - 153 server=0 -
state=TSP_OK :
TSP/1.0 200 OK

[14:35:16] Received Data on Reflector socket sock9 190 - 153 server=0 -
state=TSP_CONNECTED :
CONNECTED

[14:35:46] ERROR1 :  - invalid data received
[14:35:46] WebCam Socket sock9 closed

Then we tried without the reflector, direct connection, webcam worked, no
grabber error. Went back to reflector, tried again. He restarted his aMSN
and we repeated the procedure: tried with reflector, grabber error,
without reflector, works, with reflector again, works. He had to go now
but I guess the status log can be reproduced and sent to whoever wants it.

Good news is, reflector servers don't seem to have blocked us, Karel :)

Greetings,

Vivia

 conclusion : no direct connection is made, so reflector is tried after a

The status log didn't even mention the reflector, it just wouldn't try. I

 Now, this is MY suggestion...
 what do we get by using MSNP12 ? what new feature ? PSM ? anything else
 ? I'd say, let's have an option in advanced window that says :
 Enable support for Personal Messages (EXPERIMENTAL feature) -- needs
 profile + restart

Yes, I think this is the best thing to do.

BTW, YOU haven't used MSNP12 (scared or what? :P), but I'm using it for
quite a long time now. If it has any problems, they have to do with
groups. I am not using groups and it works perfectly (so far)!

Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.95.1 MSNP12

2006-01-13 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Changes below just made:

I haven't enabled it by default yet, Going to lunch and I'll see when I
get back :)

  yeah, I'm ok with that.. I though of an option for cvs and 0.95.1, but
  if you want it to be 'forced testing', then enable it in cvs and add to
  the wiki in the release notes : revert back protocol change to msnp12
  or something that we'd understand...

 yes... I'll do it in a while - let me settle down at the lab and I'll add
 it, I just came :D

  also, make the option available from now so we won't rush to add it once
  we're ready to release and we remember to do it after reading the
  release notes...

 And the enterpsm key needs to be added to langen. -- note to self

Done. Everyone will now be using P12, unless you remove line 619 from
config.tcl .

[Amsn-devel] Strange characters bug reproduced!!!

2006-01-13 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

I accidentally managed to reproduce the strange characters bug! It happens
when you try to connect over port 80!

However, I am at home now and don't want to perform binary search on the
versions. We know that 0.94 works and that June's version has the bug.
Does anyone want to find the date when it was introduced before I go to
the university on monday?

Vivia

Re: [Amsn-devel] bug with personal messages

2006-01-14 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Bug with strange characters on contact list fixed, thanx A LOT Sander! :)

 BTW, PMs have problems with every unicode char as it was expectable :P

Really? With utf-8 encoding and the correct font?

I have Greek and even Korean letters on my PM and they appear correctly...
so do Greek characters from other people...

And I still get no PSMs when connecting under P11.

No, they appear correctly on my end, but not on the other person's end.
Fixed and committed.

However, we don't seem to send the PSM as soon as we connect, unless we
change it. Don't have time to see it now.

[Amsn-devel] Language commits: [Amsn-commits] msn/lang langel,1.6,1.7 (fwd)

2006-01-14 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

I don't know how easy this is, but...

Emails from amsn-commits are sent with no encoding header. Would it be
easy to add a default (like utf-8 iso-8859-15 or even us-ascii) and change
it for lang/lang* commits to the language's encoding?

If it's not easy, nvm, anyone interested can always iconv :)
