Re: [JAWS-Users] Do you have problems with IE8 JAWS?
My guess is that the parrent document being announced is part of the technical information available in Developer Mode, which is now part of Internet Explorer 8. Pressing F12 toggles Developer Mode on and off. It provides the capability to view and dynamically modify the underlying HTML and CSS, along with the resulting DOM, that make upp the webpage. The parent document reference would be the very top item in the Document Object Model (DOM). Either you unknowingly got switched into Developer Mode or JAWS is picking up information that should not be displayed. If pressing F12 does not fix the problem, see if pressing Insert + Escape allows JAWS to read the page correctly. [JAWS-Users] Desperate for Yahoogroups tutorial
Hello Friends, I have succeeded in setting up a yahoogroups list for our United States Braille Chess Association, because our Topica list no longer responds to any commands, and we have not been able to contact their support department after several months. Yes, it is set up , pesky captures and such, but it was with a great amount of assistance from others, and I need to learn how to manage it myself, and also the people I have assigned as moderators need to learn all about the different functions. Yahoogroups is not what I would call a JAWS friendly program. And I would compare it to learning Microsoft Word or Excel! Word and Excel are easier in my opinion! At least they have command keys, and menu bars! Can anyone please help me find a Tutorial for learning how to manage a yahoogroups list? We would even be willing to pay for it. Can anyone also give me Kathy, oh I forgot her last name, the lady that does the Special Access training, and produces tutorials email address so I can find out if she can assist us? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! I have not had a chance to look into it at this point in time since school has been covering me up. After the semester ends I plan to look more into it for my minor problem. You might want to seek information about the repair off the site from this knowledgeable group. - Original Message - From: Jim Rawls jazzpi...@verizon.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, April 24, 2010 1:22 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] i need to download the latest update to jaws again, and I can't. yes, and when I put the disk for jaws 11 in, I don't get a choice of repairing. so, I went to tools and maintenance, and there was no choice to repair there either, just uninstall. [JAWS-Users] Avast expiring
Hi: I am running XP SP3 and the latest JAWS 11 build on a desktop computer and Avast 9.0 which is expiring in 7 days, I don't want to go through downloading 9.0 again and installing. I am going to install MSE and have a couple of questions on uninstalling Avast: 1. I checked the Avast folder in the programs file and could not find a uninstall, is the only uninstall for Avast in the control file? 2. Those of you who have uninstalled Avast from the Control file, did you find it clears out all of the files and the register entries? 3. If I need to get another tool, how and where do I get it? Re: [JAWS-Users] Desperate for Yahoogroups tutorial
Alan, I moderate a list that was moved from a private server using the Mailman software to yahoogroups. Yes, Yahoo's group pages are not the most user friendly, but it's more due to the layout of the pages rather than accessibility. Yahoo is all web based, so it's a matter of knowing your browser and your screen reader of choice, as well as a bit of memorization when it comes to negotiating some of the pages specific to mods. They just added an audio code that allows anyone with the proper mod privileges to add members without going through the captcha or invite process, so that part is at least accessible. What version of JAWS and what browser are you using? I might be able to help if you have specific questions. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague. thanks Brian. what I finally had to do is, use narrator, which I hate doing, but in this case it helped. Will this work with Jaws 11.76? -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kliph Sent: Saturday, April 24, 2010 3:47 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] FACEBOOK ISSUES: ACCESSING THE CHAT FEATURE If you have Jaws 11.1430, you can down load AIM, and it's accessible with the chat feature. And you don't need to sign up with AOL either, just choose to use your current email address, and it will import your facebook contacts right in to your buddy list. Not only that, if you use twitter you can post to both that and facebook at the same time. And the best thing about it, there is no caption! -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Josh Sent: Friday, April 23, 2010 10:43 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] FACEBOOK ISSUES: ACCESSING THE CHAT FEATURE Have you used the chat recently using I.E. 7? I would have never upgraded to I.E. 8 but everytime I would go into chat I kept getting redirected to another window. Once in that other window I would scroll down and find the person I wanted to chat with and pressed enter. After pressing enter I found the person's name below the chat area and directly under that was a graphic of some sort that read the words pop out or pop in something to that nature. I clicked on that graphic and the chat window would close leaving me with the choices of people to chat with and no window to enter my text. Should you have any suggestions please feel free to share with me thank you. Also I want to add I checked underneath as far as I could go and nothing in that seperate chat window. - Original Message - From: Tan Siew Ling rustybe...@gmail.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, April 23, 2010 8:54 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] FACEBOOK ISSUES: ACCESSING THE CHAT FEATURE Hi, This is for Internet Explorer 7. Go to www.facebook.com Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk to. After finding that person, press Enter on that name. On top of the page, arrow down till you hear, View Profile. Below it, there should be an Edit box where you can type the message. This box is like the history window for Windows Live Messenger. If you hear your name followed by the time stamp spoken then by the message, you have sent that message. If your friend responds, you should hear a Pop sound. Hope this method works. NOTE: I had to upgrade to I.E. 8 in order to get my chat working again. Ok here it goes. 1.) go to facebook.com. 2.) move down the page to where JAWS says Chat and the number of people on will read after it says chat. 3.) Route to Jaws cursor by pressing jaws key + the minus key on the number pad. 4.) At this point it gets a little tricky you will need to move to I usually go to about the second letter of the word chat and do a left mouse click using the number pad that key is the divide sign). 5.) After pressing the left mouse click you should turn back on pc cursor and scroll down underneath chat it may say loading at this point I usually will press the jaws key and the escape key at the same time this key combination updates the screen usually it works the first time but should it not then try it again. So this is the instructions for opening the chat area. Instructions for getting a chat going: 1.) scroll down with PC cursor activated to the name you want. 2.) Once you are at the name you want press enter on it. 3.) I then will pull up the jaws find using the key combination (control + the letter F) 4.) At this point I will type in the name of the person I am wanting to chat with and repeat this step until I am in the chat screen. You can find this out by each time you find their name scroll down a bit and see if their is additional information on this person such as view profile or close chat window. another option is scroll down underneath the chat list and find the chat window that way. NOTE: I have autoforms turned off using the jaws key and the letter V and scrolling down to where it says auto forms on. I am not sure about this but I believe you then press enter to toggle auto forms off if enter does not do it then try pressing space bar. * * * With auto forms mode off I scroll down into the chat window and listen for it to say edit at that point I can press enter and turn forms mode back on. Once you type your message you then will press enter again to send the message. You can check to see if the message was sent by scrolling through the chat window and looking for your message.
