getting blank pages, crashes, and that open parent document button that

Hi,

Just to make sure I gave the right instructions, I just tried it 5
minutes ago.

After you have selected who you wish to chat to, go right at the top
of the page by doing a Ctrl+Home, when you arrow down a few times, you
should hear, View Profile. Below that link, there's a edit box which
acts like a history window in Windows Live Messenger.
Oh, I know which graphic you are referring to. I have no idea what it

Is this helpful in any way?

Hi,

This is for Internet Explorer 7.

Go to www.facebook.com

Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat

A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk
to.

After finding that person, press Enter on that name.
On top of the page, arrow down till you hear, View Profile.
Below it, there should be an Edit box where you can type the message.
This box is like the history window for Windows Live Messenger.
If you hear your name followed by the time stamp spoken then by the
message, you have sent that message. If your friend responds, you
should hear a Pop sound.

 Hope this method works.

Ok here it goes. 1.) go to facebook.com. 2.) move down the page to
where
JAWS says Chat and the number of people on will read after it says
chat.

3.)
Route to Jaws cursor by pressing jaws key + the minus key on the number
pad.
4.) At this point it gets a little tricky you will need to move to I
usually
go to about the second letter of the word chat and do a left mouse
click

the

left mouse click you should turn back on pc cursor and scroll down
underneath chat it may say loading at this point I usually will press
the

updates
the screen usually it works the first time but should it not then try
it

again. So this is the instructions for opening the chat area.

Instructions for getting a chat going:
1.) scroll down with PC cursor activated to the name you want.
2.) Once you are at the name you want press enter on it.

(control

+
the letter F)
4.) At this point I will type in the name of the person I am wanting to
chat
with and repeat this step until I am in the chat screen. You can find
this
out by each time you find their name scroll down a bit and see if their
is
additional information on this person such as view profile or close

the
chat window that way.

I believe you then press enter to toggle auto forms off if enter does

listen for it to say edit at that point I can press enter and turn

Re: [JAWS-Users] Do you have problems with IE8 JAWS?

2010-04-24 Thread Donald Marang
My guess is that the parrent document being announced is part of the
technical information available in Developer Mode, which is now part of
Internet Explorer 8. Pressing F12 toggles Developer Mode on and off. It
provides the capability to view and dynamically modify the underlying HTML
and CSS, along with the resulting DOM, that make upp the webpage. The
parent document reference would be the very top item in the Document
Object Model (DOM). Either you unknowingly got switched into Developer Mode
or JAWS is picking up information that should not be displayed. If pressing
F12 does not fix the problem, see if pressing Insert + Escape allows JAWS to
read the page correctly.

[JAWS-Users] Desperate for Yahoogroups tutorial

2010-04-24 Thread Alan Dicey
Hello Friends,
I have succeeded in setting up a yahoogroups list for our
United States Braille Chess Association,
because our Topica list no longer responds to any commands, and we have not
been able to contact their support department after several months.

Yes, it is set up , pesky captures and such, but it was with a great amount of
assistance from others, and I need to learn how to manage it myself, and also
the people I have assigned as moderators need to learn all about the
different functions.

Yahoogroups is not what I would call a JAWS friendly program.
And I would compare it to learning Microsoft Word or Excel!
Word and Excel are easier in my opinion!
At least they have command keys, and menu bars!

Can anyone please help me find a Tutorial for learning how to manage a
yahoogroups list?

We would even be willing to pay for it.

Can anyone also give me Kathy, oh I forgot her last name, the lady that does
the Special Access training, and produces tutorials email address so I can
find out if she can assist us?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

With Best Regards,
Alan

Hello Friends,
I have succeeded in setting up a yahoogroups list for our
United States Braille Chess Association,
because our Topica list no longer responds to any commands, and we have not
been able to contact their support department after several months.

Yes, it is set up , pesky captures and such, but it was with a great amount
of assistance from others, and I need to learn how to manage it myself, and
also the people I have assigned as moderators need to learn all about the
different functions.

Can anyone also give me Kathy, oh I forgot her last name, the lady that does
the Special Access training, and produces tutorials email address so I
can find out if she can assist us?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

[JAWS-Users] Avast expiring

2010-04-24 Thread George Marshall

Hi:
I am running XP SP3 and the latest JAWS 11 build on a desktop computer and
Avast 9.0 which is expiring in

7 days, I don't want to go through downloading 9.0 again and installing. I
am going to install MSE and have a couple of questions on uninstalling
Avast:
1. I checked the Avast folder in the programs file and could not find a
uninstall, is the only uninstall for Avast in the control file?
2. Those of you who have uninstalled Avast from the Control file, did you
find it clears out all of the files and the register entries?
3. If I need to get another tool, how and where do I get it?
Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Desperate for Yahoogroups tutorial

2010-04-24 Thread Lisa Belville

Alan,

I moderate a list that was moved from a private server using the Mailman
software to yahoogroups. Yes, Yahoo's group pages are not the most user
friendly, but it's more due to the layout of the pages rather than
accessibility. Yahoo is all web based, so it's a matter of knowing your
browser and your screen reader of choice, as well as a bit of memorization
when it comes to negotiating some of the pages specific to mods.

They just added an audio code that allows anyone with the proper mod
privileges to add members without going through the captcha or invite
process, so that part is at least accessible.

What version of JAWS and what browser are you using? I might be able to
help if you have specific questions.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

Hello Jim,

You might have already resolved the problem, but if not here is a link
that

you can use to download the newest update for your 64-bit installation of
JAWS. Information about performing the repair is shown below after the
download link.

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J11.0.1430-64
bit.exe

After downloading the file you can do the following steps to repair the
installation:

1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.

2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.

3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.

4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press
the end key and then press spacebar.

5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately
by the word type then a space and then the word repair.

6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.

7. Follow the prompts.

Take care.

Would check the jaws setting for keyboard, and they haven't put win98
on anything in past 5 years. you either have xp, linix, hackintosh,
windows 7 starter or spent for retail version.
Also check how the fn key does, because it can change things around
on the keyboard. But, mostly when held down.

Win98? now thats funny!

I'd start by reviewing the FS recommended settings for the operating
system if it is 98 or XP, because it sounds like some keys are being
misinterpreted. Making sure these recommendations are met usually provides a
better experience.

I know that I navigate in documents all the time with those commands on my

When I try to use ctrl plus left arrow to go backward word by word
in a document jaws says route
jaws to PC. However, ctrl right arrow to move forward word by word
in a document works correctly.

How can I fix this?

This is for Internet Explorer 7.

 Go to www.facebook.com

Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat

A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk to.
