Alone, this combo does nothing, as you say. However, if you mark a point in the
text with control+Windows key+k, then move to another point and press this
combo, the text between the two points will be selected.

Sure, and it is still a contortionist key command!

Yeah, pretty much this. If the sighted world isn't really convinced (and I
don't know anyone who uses it, either), is it surprising Edge isn't really
an accessibility priority?

It has been over 2 years since Edge was introduced to the public, for it to
still be not accessible seems a crying shame. I know one can use Narrator
but to have no good alternative to narrator in a program one is already
familiar with seems a shame. Considering Microsoft touts accessibility,
I changed the option to block popups to "off", so
firefox will not try to alert me but simply open the window. Now the window
does open, but it's some kind of javascript (I think that is what a jsb file
is?) that seems to be intended to generate some content, maybe that
I use IE 11, it has a way to save favorites, Chrome so far as I could tell
when it was the default on my other computer did not, and Firefox always has
locked up on me regardless of the configuration or computer I had it on.
Edge saves nothing according to sighted cousin not even with a mouse.
No we can't all use Firefox, I have never had luck with it, freezes
constantly, can't find much with it. Chrome, can't save favorite websites,
and more. Choice, with compromise always.

For what it is worth nobody I know many of them sited are using Edge at all.
My point is in over 2 years of it being available no evidence of it being
useful at all has crossed my desk and I doubt many of you out there can say
anything to the contrary so far.

Thanks. It isn't, alas.

Hi Fernando. Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful response. I knew
about the Firefox adobe viewer. Unfortunately I'm not even getting to that
point. While other PDFs will open in it, Adobe, Qread or the programme of my
choice, this one causes an alert about a popup window to appear. I
I won't mind giving Edge a spin just for the hell of it, but I suspect it
won't be as good as Firefox or even Chrome for quite some time, as far as
convenience ad ease of use with JAWS goes. For the moment at least, you're
definitely better off using those browsers. As Ed said, Edge support is
I'm sorry, Rose, I didn't pick up on that part of your question. Actually, the
command is two-part: first press JAWS key+spacebar, the JAWS layer command,
release, and only then press m. less torture, better results!!

Hi,
There is a potential showstopper I'm keeping an eye on: in latest Fall
Creators Update preview build, Microsoft Edge appears to not fire an event
desperately needed by screen readers such as JAWS to announce notifications.
This appears to be a regression in recent builds, and I asked Edge
I have Jaws set to read tables and controls but have one page I'd rather
have the original settings so I don't have to keep hearing row or cell all
the time. I know it can be done, did it a couple of years ago, however,
can't seem to figure it out now.
Also, tried to load training files
Hey.
I agree with what you're saying, but none of us have to use Edge, or any
product really. I know mS has been pushing it, but the reason some of us use
PCs and not Macs is that there is always plenty of choice. I don't really
see the point in getting too annoyed about it (although it's
Sorry you've had those experiences. Both Chrome ad Firefox work well on my

Currently, I use Excel 2016 with Jaws 18.0, and I turned on Jaws' virtual

insert, or delete a worksheet within a workbook. Sounds like Jaws can't access
it from the home tab. I can insert a sheet by
Hello Cuong,
Holding down shift key and pressing F11 works whether or not virtual ribbon
is being used. This inserts a worksheet. The old command from Excel 2003
for deleting still works in Excel 2013 whether or not the virtual ribbon is
used. You might try it to see if it works for Excel
Hello,
JAWS has a method for naming columns and/or rows but using the Excel Naming
Manager is what is now recommended. Here are the steps:
1. You first need to move the keyboard focus to the row containing the
column headers.
Use CTRL with G to launch the Go To dialog box. Type in the

I should have mentioned that if you want to hear row titles then you use
RowTitle instead of ColumnTitle. If you want both row and column titles you
would use Title instead of ColumnTitle or RowTitle.
There should be no spaces in the name, the beginning of the range is

You can use the OCR feature of jaws using Insert+space, then O, and then

information on how the scan is progressing--how many files have been scanned
and a file name. Tjere won't be an estimated time of completion. A
Morning all.
Can anyone point me in the direction for math editor programs that are
accessible with JAWS? I am probably hearing the sound of laughter right now,
but you never learn anything by not asking, right? I am using JAWS 17, Office

Hi Ted/all,
I do not know the specific answer, however, many library or articles having

The simplest way to mark row and column headers for JAWS reading is not,
however, always a permanent one. The process I use is so simple and
quick that it's OK if I occasionally need to restate them.
Press the JAWS key (insert) but first make sure it's a sticky key so
that it will stay
Another thought. the "r" shortcut takes you to a webpage's different regions.
Pressing r until you hear "main region" is another way of getting to content

For me, the problem with a "Skip to main content" link is that the webpage sees
