OK, since i'm better of writing drivers than code bug-free enough to
be given root privileges, i took the skeleton USB driver from LINUX
2.4.21 and made a PICkit driver out of it this evening. It still has
a few warts but it doesn't require root privileges. The skeleton USB
driver for LINUX
FWIW, I've never had any problem with 2.4.small number through
2.4.20-19.7 (redhat kernel) that I'm running now with the USB devices I
have (storage, joystick and a camera).
