Drew Smith and I counted about 250 Greater White-fronted Geese and 10 Ross' s

Also present at the location of the Yellow-throated Warbler found by Jason
were a Bay-breasted Warbler and a Gray-cheeked Thrush. Both warblers spent
most of their time feeding on the sidewalks and street, along with 3 or more

I agree with Chris that Mullarney et al. is a fine book, but be aware that the
print is quite tiny. (I'm sure this was necessary to pack so much information
into a book it's size.)

This is the 4th Lewis's Woodpecker to be found in Minnesota (1974-74, 1992,
1994, and now 2013). We've also had 3 Williamson's Sapsuckers in the state,
putting us at 12 species in all.

To follow up on Jesse's post from last week, today Wisconsin birders found a
Dickcissel in their 72nd county out of 72. Minnesota has reported them in 83
of 87 counties. For 2012, we are only missing reports of this species from
Stevens, Traverse, Roseau, and Cook.

Among the 775 gulls roosting on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis this evening
were 2 Thayer's Gulls - a handsome first-cycle bird and a rather
motley-looking adult.

3 White-winged Crossbills were along Pietz's Rd (320th) north of CR 18 in
Aitkin today. Also in the neighborhood were mutilpe flocks of redpolls and a
Northern Shrike.

At 12:50 pm it was at the SW corner of the lake, in one of the large elms. The
bird was about 15 ft off the ground and associating with a small flock of
warblers.

One was at T S Roberts this morning, at the pond immediately in front of you
upon entering through the Rose Garden entrance. A good variety of other
warblers and sparrows were also present.
