Yes, when downloading a book, the BARD app has to be the current app
running.
If you switch to another app, then the download will stop.
I downloaded two books this afternoon, and it only took a couple of Minutes

Besides swiping up and down with three fingers, I also find that using the
vertical navigation feature of the roter wheel helps me find things quicker on
the yahtzee and Baulet screens.
