A friend has commissioned me to install Gentoo on one of their machines for
them. I'm trying to run some final updates before I turn it back over to them,
but it keeps hanging on plasma-desktop-5.12.4 after linking kcm_fontinst.so
(see attachment).

I've solved the missing L-click problem quite simply for my own use.
Use R-click to open the desktop context menu -> Configure Desktop
-> Mouse Actions -> Right Button : make it Application Launcher ;
that brings back the desktop menu of applications.

now it has also lost the ability to assign to desktop Middle-Click ;

The first run of emerge tells me to add the systemd USE flag to dbus.
I did that and ran into to problems I reported.
Then I removed that one and added -systemd to make.confs USE, which
in general seems to be a good idea per se.

It seems the shutdown, suspend, et al options are gone from the plasma desktop
