Hi CJ
Well it does sound like an overheating problem, there have been a lot of laptop
recalls recently because of faulty overheading batteries but you say yours is
running hot with the battery removed. When it starts to get hot you should
hear
the fan begin to operate, if you can not hear the fan I would suspect a faulty
fan.
There was a similar thread running on this list towards the end of August, I
missed most as I was on holiday but the subject was "overheating laptop" and
coincidentally referred to an overheating Toshiba laptop. Here is one post
dated 31/08/2006 that may be of help, from --- Graham Butcher

There are further posts after the above relating to cleaning, so maybe worth
reading. If I think of anything else I will get back.

Hey there Rupert!!!
Ok, here's the situation... my son's girlfriend gave me this Toshiba A15 S129
lap top. It's about 3 years old or so. The thing turns on, Windows XP loads, I
get to the desktop, etc. (most of the time anyway). I start tinkering around in
Windows and eventually (usually within a couple of minutes or so) the thing
shuts down.
I tried removing the battery and operating the thing from A/C only. No good.
Still shuts down.
I did check the settings and they're all set to "never" shut off.
I did notice the thing gets hot; the hotter it gets the faster it shuts off.
I have it sitting on the dining room table, so there should be enough
ventilation around the thing.
What do you think? I hate like hell to send this thing in for service
especially
if it ends up costing an arm and a leg. I can replace the battery myself, no
big
deal.
Thanks!
