Sir, may I say, you are the consummate pack rat (LOL).
Granted you probably own lots and lots of disc space, but
why clutter it with programs you may never use? I admire
your tenacity, but it seems something of a waste.
Hi Walter:
Well, you need to understand..........Computing and my Online groups are my
hobby. I have several online groups. If I want to pursue this hobby and
I want to be of any help online then I sure won't speak on something I have
not tried. That is why I have had Vista from the very beginning. And I
continue to use Vista even though I have no real use for it.
Some people have albums full of stamps, and I know someone who has 500
lbs of rocks in his RV. This is a learning experience for me, and as long
as I move forward I don't go backwards. On days that I have nothing
scheduled I spend 5 hours on the internet. I was at the front of the first
WIFI
experiments and the same with Cellular Data connections in the days of analog.
If someone has an unusual problem I will go online and research the
problem. I file the information away for future reference.
I also mentioned that I usually keep MY PCs pretty simple and I would just
as soon use the XP resources to do most work. If one uses XP with the right
settings and procedures there is no faster way. Many people never learned XP.
Calendars and address books and to do reminders are all done automatically
by AOL using a single a "User Interface". Who else phones you the day
before so you won't miss your appointment? Some people have suggested AOL is
bloated, (I never felt that) But one needs to understand that it has over 15
programs all on one integrated interface, if you want to use them.
Analog clock I've had for ages. Side bars like vista have been around for
years but they get in my way.
Browsers, there are countless, and maybe suitable for special needs but
they don't gain popularity for general use. How come? Most people don't have
special needs maybe?
MediaCenter has been around for free download for years and works as well as
XP MCE or Vista.
Synchronizing tools have been spoken of in this group for about a month. I
like Microsoft Synctoy best because it lets you synchronize any number of
pairs on your system. This is used for creating synchronized copies of your
data to any other media. For instance........C:\Mydocuments to E:\My
documents. This would be a pair. There is no need to Backup data when it is
so easy
to sychronize a copy to another drive or media for instance........C:\My
Documents to D:\My documents (That is my DVD burner). That is another pair.
Another instance..........F:\ My Document on cpmputer "A" to F:|My document
on computer "B". That is another pair. All you need to do at any time is
select the pair and select go. The rest is automatic.
Since I always have the mouse in my hand I just click Brutus once and I'm
off to dinner or restarting is the same one click with the mouse. I don't
like
to take my hand off the mouse. You can also log off the same way. It just
places the windows Icons in the quicklaunch where they are always in view.
I've offered Links to these programs to the groups for years but no one has
ever said thank you or even said they used one so I kinda quit offering. I
check out all programs recommended by members but no longer comment unless
they are exceptional. Any suggestions I make to the group, I check and
prove before I send. That's why I may sometimes get a little touchy when
somebody questions my credibility. Hope this answers some of your questions.
Bye
Emile
