I downloaded the latest version of Synchtoy (v. 1.4) but
noticed that Microsoft says it's for Vista. I have XP. Will
it work on XP. Also, can you synchronize individual files?
If this is as good as you say (and as good as Microsoft
says) I'll use it for all my backups.

Hi Walter:
I have not tried Synctoy on Vista. It runs fine on XP. And, you can
synchronize any two folders, I've never tried individual files. You just set
them
up as pairs. When you set up pairs they are simply called "left" and
"right" and you can browse to each one and just click on them. I think if
you
search under XP Toys you'll find it.

When you get busy working and you create a new folder, it is easy to forget
you might have created a folder years ago with the same name. This can
confuse backup or sync programs. I have gotten into the habit of giving all
my
creations a new serial number in the name. I use the Canadian dating method
such as today's date is 261207 as the serial number. if I need to do a search
I can search by mo. and yr. as 1207 or by the actual day as in 261207.
That way there is never a duplicate file or folder name. Just an idea.

Emile
