When I look at buying the extended warranties I weigh the cost of the warranty against the cost of the product. I also look to the company of the product and will they offer me any support without the warranty. Often times the problem can be fixed with some tech support rather than just parts Cannon in my experience really stands behind their products. They helped me a great deal with a printer I got second hand, no charge, and I always find their tech support very knowledgeable on any of their products. When it comes to a computer, it depends on how tech savvy you are. My computer did end up being grateful for the extended warranties I bought but the company was miserable to deal with (future shop).
Ask yourself, if the product dies and you cannot get it fixed with support, can you afford to pay to replace it in a reasonable time? If I cannot afford to buy another if it dies, then the warranty is worth it unless it is unreasonably expensive extended warranty. -------Original Message------- From: jpurcell Date: 30-Nov-08 8:04:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Dell Vostro A860 Shelly, > So you think that Warranties are not a good thing to buy? Buying an extended warranty is not something that can be decided Yes or No for all. First off I think that some products should have an extended warranty without additional cost. Some warranties are worth what they cost. I bought an HD TV and got the extended warranty, I think for a few hundred extra and when it developed vertical lines across the screen I got the screen replaced. Then when the new screen had the same problem I got the whole set replaced. Well worth the cost. I think you have to balance the cost of the warranty against the cost of the item. And probably do some guessing. Some products don't break down easily. None of my computers have ever needed an extended warranty.
