My understanding is extended warranties are from the retailer. Manufacturers will though sometimes support a product forever, like cannon (at least in the past for me). They will not replace parts for free but will give some tech support.
As far as the retailers goes, you can go in person to the store and maybe get some help but I find not great willingness to help or not really people who inspire me to trust they know what they are talking about. Part of that is they charge people for help so they do not want to give it away free, especially if they are busy. Over the phone, forget it as they ask for warranty info before they will talk to you. Also, in general, I find my computer to have some quirks because it is a proprietary computer (hp) so it also has some hp software that does not always play nice with all things Microsoft. -------Original Message------- From: jpurcell Date: 30-Nov-08 3:20:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Dell Vostro A860 Artichoke, > I also look to the company of the product and will they offer me > any support without the warranty. I might be wrong but I think that most of those extended warranties come from the retailer rather than the mfg. That may cast some light on their value.
