We wanted to share this with the community in case it helps someone who is looking for health insurance.
Both my husband and I are visually impaired, and we are also working in the financial sector, where we actively deal with insurance. So we understand both sides — the customer challenges as well as how the industry works.
We recently ported our policy from Care Health Insurance to the HDFC ERGO Insurance Optima Secure plan. This is a mainstream health policy, and we were able to get it without any extra loading or disadvantages due to visual impairment. According to our experience, this is one of the best plans available in the industry right now and HDFC ergo is also a really good health insurance brand with a smooth claim settlement process.

No health insurance provider can deny you any health insurance policy basis, visual impairment. You need to apply on their portal and in case your proposal is initially rejected, then you need to write to their management. It is always advisable to disclose your disability upfront, which may be included as part of pre-existing diseases or in some cases excluded conditions for which ensure will not give any claim. I have a health insurance policy from CARE Health Insurance. The
policy specifically mentions that I am a Person With Disability
& my disability is 100% blindness. The company issued me the
policy on condition that no eye-related ailments or injuries would
be covered except when they were caused by an accident. The
waiting period for pre-existing diseases was 1 year.

Yes, Niva Bupa Max health insurance is giving
insurance to visually impaired people. Only the restriction
is that they don’t ensure I related problems. Other than
that, they cover everything. And one can get claim, also if
the case is genuine

I currently have Niva Bupa health insurance. My
policy explicitly mentions that I am visually
impaired, and I have provided my disability
certificate as documentation. Because this is
disclosed, blindness should not be a basis for
claim rejection. In my experience, I believe it
is a good brand to consider.

policybazaar or other third party but any
private good insurance company who has good
claim results
My curiosity is, are you able to
claim it? Given no Indian citizenship?
Because OCI obviously has restrictions
so I wouldn’t even think about insurance
in India.
