Also I had to tweak Aparajita's json library to work with the paging code
I'm not sure why, I wrote the json library for use with Ext and used it with the Ext paging toolbar with no problem.
So rather than trying to get into Ext with a 'baptism of fire' I'd recommend just pulling out parts you like and integrating them into your current projects. It worked for me.
This is true, you don't have to do the entire application in Ext, you can integrate it into existing pages quite nicely.
