Hi Johnny, It's really strange that changing the extension doesn't work for leafnose, but it worked on mine. I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5. I wonder if that's what the difference is.
I spent hours trying to reconvert the files, and they did work, it's just that they looked terrible. I used Procoder Express. Even using the highest quality I could, the files looked dark and blotchy. When I changed the file extension, they looked much better. I guess I'm lucky that it worked. So, your machine might have one of the motion jpeg codec installed that allows you to easily play the file by renaming the extension. Back in the days, I have a lot of avi motion jpeg files (640x480 - standard definition) that I wanted to convert into dv - avi files (which are type 2) and found that they aren't even work so I found a converter that converts the file from one type to the other (it's just at the beginning of the file, there's a code that need to be change and that's it). The convert is useful if the user doesn't have an avi motion jpeg codec installed on your computer, you can also get the codec with MainConcept, they sell it I think, cheap. Movie Maker can play both types of avi files, also, microsoft have a free converter info page here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms787833.aspx and it provides more info. You don't need a converter. All you do is change the extension from avi to mpg. You can then import it. The files produced by the Canon are MJPEG files.
