Hi Jean, can you look at your video codec listings to see what is listed there? Go to device manager, double click on Soun, video and game controllers, double click on video codecs, then go to properties and there will be a list, one of them probably has a lot to do with motion jpeg :)
I never tried procoder to convert avi 1 to 2 so don't know how good or bad it is, technically, it shouldn't make it worst as it's just 'split' the video/audio streams :) Well, at least right now leafnose got it working :) Johnny -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jean Chang Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2007 1:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AP] Point and Shoot AVI Files not recognized Hi Johnny, It's really strange that changing the extension doesn't work for leafnose, but it worked on mine. I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5. I wonder if that's what the difference is. I spent hours trying to reconvert the files, and they did work, it's just that they looked terrible. I used Procoder Express. Even using the highest quality I could, the files looked dark and blotchy. When I changed the file extension, they looked much better. I guess I'm lucky that it worked. I don't know why it didn't for leafnose. Thanks for the info. Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: Johnny K. So, your machine might have one of the motion jpeg codec installed that allows you to easily play the file by renaming the extension. Back in the days, I have a lot of avi motion jpeg files (640x480 - standard definition) that I wanted to convert into dv - avi files (which are type 2) and found that they aren't even work so I found a converter that converts the file from one type to the other (it's just at the beginning of the file, there's a code that need to be change and that's it). The convert is useful if the user doesn't have an avi motion jpeg codec installed on your computer, you can also get the codec with MainConcept, they sell it I think, cheap. Movie Maker can play both types of avi files, also, microsoft have a free converter info page here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms787833.aspx and it provides more info. You don't need a converter. All you do is change the extension from avi to mpg. You can then import it. The files produced by the Canon are MJPEG files. They show an avi extension, but you just have to rename it to mpg and they import fine. Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: Johnny K. I was going crazy with the same problem. I have a Canon SD800, and my avi files were not recognized either. I have Canopus Procoder Express, and tried everyconceivable method, but the quality would become terrible. The solution is so simple, I can't stand it. Simply rename the file from whatever.avi to whatever.mpg Worked like a charm. I can't tell you how many experts on the internet wanted me to download a million different codecs to try and fix the problem, and some kid told me to just rename the avi to an mpg! Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: leafnose To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2007 8:38 AM Subject: [AP] Point and Shoot AVI Files not recognized I have a canon point and shoot that can also shoot video clips. It saves the files in .avi format, but when I try to import them into Premiere it say it's not a supported format. anyone been through this? done some "converting" in Roxio, but lost the sound for some reason [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo!
