My next question was: How do you characterize a "breakthrough"? Very few people, whether they are serious researchers or not, will make significant breakthroughs. The first problem with frequent posters to this group is that it takes time to write these messages and that time is not being spent actually working on a project. So frequent posters are probably not working on projects (or they are not working very hard) so it is unlikely that they will make breakthroughs. However, that does not mean that everyone who was a frequent poster will never work hard on a project.
