I agree with Ben. Ray is savvy enough to know the quickest way to accelerate 
research in a technology is to commercialize it and make it profitable. 



Google Now seems to be pushing voice technology towards intelligent agents that 
don't just wait to be asked a question.  



I'm not saying they are now intelligent or even able to process a large number 
of requests but such a system provides a skeletal platform to develop real 
intelligence behind. 



And a business model to interest competitors into jumping into the fray as 
well. 



One could argue that Siri got the ball rolling but it seems that Apples 
interest are mainly in selling things and Google's seems to be pushing the 
envelope a little farther by installing a visionary who has a track record for 
major invention.

Actually Ray has enough $$ already....  I believe his main motivations for

these resources.... 


Google has pluses and minuses like any organization, and although Larry Page is 
psyched about AGI, one can't say that the organization is seriously deploying 
its resources in an AGI direction....  But I can certainly see the temptation 
their data and compute power offers ... these would ease the implementation of 
a variety of AGI ideas, right?
