Thank you for bringing that up. I didn't plan on adding any more "bullshit" to this discussion ... but you brought up an important point: Exploring our past lives (they are all stored within consciousness in every detail for evolutionary and evaluation purposes) can be very beneficial. Many of our more profound fears can stem from experiences from past lives. "Browsing" through past lives can be done via meditation or via hypnosis.

The CFO of Greenpeace Europe (<sarcasm>another crackpot with no intellectual/rational background</sarcasm>) told me that she also intentionally re-lived multiple death scenarios from past lives together with the corresponding temporary "afterlife" transitions. So if people want to know how life after physical death looks like they might start with exploring their own past afterlives. ;-)

Presumably it is also possibly given sufficient experience to meditate yourself into a sufficient state to be able to access such personal history. Though that would be rather subjective.

David Newton's research does point to similar starting point as justcamel mentioned, where the inexperienced are met with familiar or what they expect after death, until they are ready to accept they are dead and move onto the spirit realm, where they exist as balls of light. Additionally there seems to be peer groups and group-guides, to help figure out life experiences and what needs to be worked on in future. Then a future life is plotted and reincarnation occurs.
