I think you're missing a key point which has already been raised;

- Developing on a custom 'phone can not give users the an accurate 
reflection of the platform that users will be on.

Yes, there may be 100s' of Android devices in the future, and yes there 
may be 10 or so by the end of the year, but, right now, the market is 
limited, so buying into a hardware platform which will most likely offer 
different a processing characteristics, graphics performance, etc., just 
does not make sense. This is most probably the main reason why the ADP1 
looks so like the G1 and the G2 is so similar to both of them.

I hope you take this in the spirit in which it's intended and it helps 
you understand where the negativity is coming from.
