I have to take exception to that statement, in 12 years of Internet
Marketing I don't make statements unless I know them to be true.

We have sold $60K of product in a week, I know what I am talking about, and
it's two different animals.

Don't take that as being a JackAss, but there is a big difference between
marketers and IT guys.

You will all find that being marketers is vastly different from being
programmers, and I was a programmer for years too. Know both sides of the
coin that.....

Here's just one sample of what I do at http://www.tuberankings.com, not
trying to sell anything, just showing my qualifications....

Hope I can help you market, and you help me program,

Business 101: sales pushes the product into the channel, marketing pulls it through the channel resulting in sales. For the most part Android apps are "software trinkets." To make money you have to do so by volume. When someone criticizes a free app or wants more you could be waiting in the wings to pick up that money "on the table." IOW, make an app that does all that and charge them accordingly unless it is beyond your capability, not necessarily programming wise, but resource wise.

I have some free apps so when someone sends an email saying they want it to do more I point out that I already have an app with those features .... they can buy.

And all that said "software trinkets" are really a new paradigm and wrinkle in the industry. The larger game companies are trying to sort out in this market where they tell me people are not only unwilling to pay for a $6 game but even a 99 center.
