Exactly, reviews on free apps are always worse. That's why I never
wanted to make a demo version. And my theory held true. My paid app
maintained a 4.6 - 4.7 average for over almost two years. Finally last
month I made a limited demo. Guess what? It's hanging at 4 stars.
Basically, people that get stuff for free are usually more negative
about it. It's a common marketing concept - something like "cognition
bias" or such, in which since the user paid for the app, they feel a
need to justify spending the money and so are more likely to come up
with something positive to say.
