I believe my response would have been a quick click on the little garbage

There are always reasons. They don't have to be rational. A wounded animal
will strike at the very people who are trying to give it medical care.

It's a person who was extremely frustrated and felt the need to lash out at
the source of the pain.

There's a heavy overlap between them and the people that believe that
paying you a few bucks gives them license to abuse you and/or tell you how
to run your company.

I tree to keep my thoughts about such people to myself.

I really do want to get to the bottom of what caused the person so much
frustration and hostility. But I may need a more cooperative informant
first.

Yup, I had one customer very frustrated and gave me a 1 star. But, and this was before I got replies activated, he did contact me and I fixed his problem. He returned and changed the review to a five star. I've actually had that happen more than once.
