IMAP is a completely different protocol than POP3 !!
It has nothing to do with pop, except that they do the same. (eg download
mail, but IMAP gives you MUCH more choice.)
WIth IMAP you can manage your Mail ON THE SERVER.
You have the possibility to get only the mail headers, you can make folders
ON THE SERVER .......

You tell the software to use an IMAP server, that implies a special port !!

Haven't you read my message ... it is an independant protocol, and has
nothing to do with pop3 !

I looked at it, when the university computer got additional IMAP
functionality ...
