Hi Folks,

   Let's avoid any kind of flame war. 

   However, I have to admit that Richard Mendetter's long posting
pretty much sums up my own feelings. And Australia, as close friends as
we are to the US (even if many Americans don't seem to know where
Australia is), we still have a society and a culture that is significantly
different to the US, just as Europe has.

   Australia is an ally of the USA, and the ANZUS treaty has already been
invoked after the events of Sep 11th.  Our own armed forces are now
committed to the US action - WHATEVER IT IS   !!!
   We already have an Australian warship attached to a US fleet, and we
already have Australian soldiers serving with US troops.

   It is an unavoidable concern for us all that there is still some
doubt as to the safety of leaving the decision making to the current
American president.

   There is a very, very real fear that this clown could involve us all
in something we may come to regret.

   Yes, America has to formulate a response, and has to protect its
citizens.  But not by over-reacting with its "big boy's toys".

   Let us hope that wiser heads prevail.  If he acts unwisely, the
resultant "holy war" could engulf us all.
