@Ralph - I do not seem to have a good handle on USB. I do understand
what "asynchronous" means (I am into similar kind of data movement
software but for enterprise applications) but what bothers me is even
Steve Nugent says higher end USB cables might change the sound of his
Off-Ramp. I am not sure I want to throw high-priced band-aids into a
interface that was not meant to be used in such time/jitter critical
manner. (I am going to try HDMI)
Re: analog/LP and 24bit/96Khz - I have listened to MMF-5 turntable and
Monolithic Sound Phone Pre through my digital amps without any
noticeable "digital artefacts" as the analog purists shout about. I have
done good research that is telling me that it is actually the digital
mixing/effects that is messing up the recording and making it sound
"digital". In your case, you can record your vinyl to 24bit/96Khz once
and then conveniently play it whenever you want (some of my friends are
doing this and have listened to their rips). For digital 44.1khz is good
enough theoretically (per Nyquist theorem). 24bit will reduce
quantization errors (but some will tell you even 16bit has more
resolution than the groove depths in an LP).
