Is OOoAuthors a registered trademark?
If not, there isn't much that legally can be done. :(
1) Jean could register it *now*.
2) OOoAuthors has used this name for several years. I'm not a lawyer,
but I believe that this creates a legal precedent to get trademark type
protections.
On further reflection, I think we have to be careful with this. If we
simply say "You can't use the name OOoAuthors". What would these people
do? Change the name. Is that really better? Not only do they sell the
books, but OOoAuthors now doesn't get credit and people don't hear of
OOoAuthors.
A better goal would be to say "it's ok to sell your books, but you have
to change the copyright line to point to the real OOoAuthors website".
I would also suggest that Jean contact Lulu and ask them to make it so
if you search for OOo or OOoAuthors, the original books show up on the
search on the first page, before the copycats.
I think that the above two goals are both more reasonable, and less
likely to have unintended consequences than an impulse attempt to
prevent distribution of documents that we intended to have distributed.
Daniel.
