John - if in the painter's algorithm the renderer simply piles the triangles on top of each other and lets the Flash display list take care of showing the top one, you must be right - the renderer never knows which face is on top. I presume that's true of BASIC mode. But what about CORRECT_Z_ORDER or INTERSECTING_OBJECTS render modes? Wouldn't they need to make a decision? Or do they simply break the faces up into more triangles and then let the painter's algorithm do its job from there?
